With the recent launch of the new Lightweight Cotton Twill and NASA’s release of these awesome vintage space tourism posters to the public domain, we saw it as a perfect opportunity to create some custom space-themed wall art canvases. The new Lightweight Cotton Twill prints vibrant colors and has enough stretch to mimic canvas (plus it’s only $26/yd!) and each poster was less than $20 including materials! Happy Lunar New Year! According to Chinese zodiac, 2017 is the year of the rooster, more specifically the “Fire Rooster” which only comes around once every 60 years. Roosters are thought to be the “time keepers,” signaling when to start the day. They are the ambitious early risers, the hard working feathered friends of the zodiac. At Spoonflower, we feel 2017 is going to shape up to be the year of Roostery — our new sister brand that brings custom fabric to finished home goods. Today Kate from the Roostery team is stopping by the blog to share some of her favorite rooster themed Roostery products! Because what could be better than coming home to roost in a house full of rooster themed designs from Roostery? Okay now that was a tongue twister…

Our latest featured maker had an unconventional start growing up as a child actress and singer on sets and sound stages across the country. Later, Kathryn Zaremba received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and moved to New York City, where she was a design assistant to Jonathan Adler and illustrated textiles for Rachel Antonoff. Now settled in Washington, DC, she creates whimsical textile designs from a workshop she shares with other female makers called the Lemon Bowl. Plan a visit if you’re in the area, and read on to learn how Kathryn fuels her successful small business.
My day starts with: “COFFEE! Then usually checking emails and customer inquiries, depends on the day. I try to plan a couple of days (or several half days) that are dedicated to making. The majority of my work is creating pattern designs for wallpaper and textiles but I also make paper portraits. These are intricate cutouts I am commissioned by people to make, so it’s important to allot enough time for them!”

Remember a few months ago when we introduced you to our new sister company, Roostery? They are a small team that’s working to help bring your unique home dec projects and ideas to life, no sewing skills required. You can take your Spoonflower designs or designs you love in our Marketplace, and order them to be sew up (in the USA) on various products like cocktail napkins, placemats, tea towels, and pillows. We’re excited to have Kate from the Roostery team stop by the blog today to share all the exciting updates the Roostery team has been working hard on over the past few months!
My day starts with a bit of a mom hustle, feeding two boys, getting one to school and the other back down for a nap and then hit the ground running with either a shift at the store, exercise, or checking things off my list.
