With more than a million designs available in the Spoonflower Marketplace (and now Shutterfly!), it might be easy to find at least a few favorites you hold dear to your heart. Though, how can you bring these to life in your space? Step inside the home of Spoonflower’s Senior Manager of Merchandising, Emerson Jones, and learn five unique ways she styled her top-picked designs into the decor of her dreams.
and Spot the Dog by spellstone
Emerson: Welcome to my 101 year old home! We purchased this place two years ago and are slowly but surely working through renovation projects. The space has become an eclectic mix of things that make me and my partner happy. I follow a collector’s approach to design and firmly believe if you fill your home with individual items that you personally love, it will all come together in the end.
Dining Room Wallpaper
A giant portrait of dalmatians and UFO toile wallpaper may not be obvious choices, but I am absolutely in love with our dining room. If you have seen me present in webinars, you have likely seen these pieces behind me on camera. The dog print was thrifted, and I haven’t been able to find any details on its origin, so if you know anything please send me a note!
The wallpaper is my all-time favorite Spoonflower design printed on Prepasted Removable Smooth wallpaper. I feel like it gives a winking nod to traditional styles appropriate for the age of the home. Accented by an antique wash basin and vintage wicker frog trashcan, this room puts a smile on everyone’s face when they walk through our front door.
Plate Gallery Wall
Earlier this year, I helped the team launch select Spoonflower designs on melamine dishware for Shutterfly. After years of only seeing Spoonflower prints and patterns on textile-based products, it was so thrilling to curate our artists’ incredible work on plates and platters. Inspired by vintage collectable plate displays, I purchased a dozen salad plates with my favorite designs and created this lovely little gallery wall.
Sofa Pillows
Finding coordinating prints from different artists is always a serendipitous moment that gets me excited. I have had this snake print by rosalindmaroneyillustration in my favorites for quite some time, but when I found a matching pink and red abstract by louisemargaret, I knew it was time to pull the trigger and buy the pillows. I have been loving the modern, less preppy take on the pink-green color combo currently trending—so I knew these pillows would look great on my green sofa.
Back Deck Setup
The day that the Spoonflower team stopped by was also the day my spouse and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. I was excited to take the opportunity to set a festive atmosphere on our back deck with a Spoonflower table runner in Spot the Dog by spellstone, which just so happens to match this umbrella I found. One year later our cake still tasted as good as it looked.
Deer Head
This faux taxidermy by Spoonflower maker Near and Deer was a gift to celebrate my 5th work anniversary with the brand. After starting out as a part-time seasonal hire in our Durham factory in 2015, I feel so lucky to have grown along with the company in the years since.
I loved seeing pictures of your homes! Would you please post a step by step (easy?) guide to hanging your removable wallpaper. I would love to try it but am intimidated by the process! Many thanks!
Hi, Ann! We posted this article a while back that’s a comprehensive guide to hanging our Peel and Stick wallpaper. And here’s a Youtube video from our Help team on how to hang our Smooth Removable wallpaper (my personal favorite!). I hope it’s helpful! Please feel free to reach out if there’s any other way we can support you. Cheers, Theresa
You’ve showcased some lovely ideas in your home. Thank you for sharing.
— About your dalmation print: The dalmation dogs depicted are an almost exact match for a pair named Bridget and Dotty, who were originally photographed at or in connection with the Kent Marshall Photography studio. They are part of his logo, and also are available in a 2100X2100 greyscale image in the back end of his portfolio page. You might be able to contact him to get information about if he licensed the image to anyone for modification.
Thanks so much for sharing this info on the Dalmatian painting, which I’ve shared with Emerson! 🙂
Best,
Betsy
