I don’t know about you, but this week’s winter weather has me wanting to stay inside and wait for spring. While the snow and ice is starting to melt here in North Carolina, I’m still planning to spend my Valentine’s Day cuddled up and warm at home. If you’re staying in too, here are 5 things to inspire a celebration of all things heart shaped and lovey-dovey on Valentine’s Day!
FEAST YOUR EYES on all of the gorgeous heart designs on the Spoonflower Marketplace. Sign into your account to favorite the designs you love to keep track for future projects. I’m loving this Queen of Hearts collection by PennyCandy. The design featured here is Open Your Heart.
FOLD AN ORIGAMI HEART in five different ways. You can use them to embellish a valentine or simply give them to someone you love.
EMBROIDER a handwritten message from the heart.
RAID YOUR PAPER STASH (and perhaps the recycling you’ve avoided taking out in the snow!) to create beautiful, mini heart pinatas.

Hope these will keep you from going stir crazy on a Valentine’s Day in!

With Valentine's Day coming up on Friday, we've rounded up some quick projects that you can sew, knit, or crochet this week to show someone how much you care. The best part is, you can finish most of these with yarn and fabric you probably already have in your stash!

Learn 10 quilting design techniques from Nicole Neblett of Mama Love Quilts! We were so lucky to have Nicole teach a series of modern quilting classes in the Spoonflower Greenhouse this past fall and winter, and she graciously created some modern quilt block tutorials to share with those of you who couldn't make it, like her Modern Half-Square Triangle blocks, Free Piecing blocks, and Modern Log Cabin blocks. Now she's back to help you finish off those lovely quilting projects with 10 different design techniques and tips for choosing the best design for your project.
Choosing a Modern Quilting Finishing Design

This tutorial will review things to keep in mind when selecting a quilting design. I'll review ten different machine quilting designs that will hopefully inspire you on your next quilting project.
I'm not an expert sewist, so I get really excited when I find a sewing tutorial that uses simple techniques, and will take an hour or less to complete. While I love sitting down to make something with my hands, I can get a little frustrated or overwhelmed when I take on a big project, and the hours drag on and on.
This weekend I'll be making three quick items that are sure to be sweet and easy. When I'm done with my sewing shindig, I'll have a whole new outfit to wear to work on Monday.

SEW a slouchy cardigan you can wear 4 ways. Use a big peice of soft knit, cut some arm holes, and sew on sleeves.
SEW a slouchy dress, with just two seams!
LEARN new techniques with Garmenter's incredible illustrated sewing instructions. (Grab a new pattern while you're there, too!) Great when you have a, "Now I'm supposed to sew the what to the what!?" moment.
DANCE your heart out like this amazing little lady, once you've finished your projects.
