With Tiffany DeLangie from Pretty Real Blog
We love to see how people use our Grasscloth Wallpaper! Tiffany DeLangie of Pretty Real Blog shares her experience adding grasscloth to her home’s entryway to give it some more personality. Read on to see why grasscloth was an easy choice for her home with an added extra bonus hint on installation too! (Note: All photographs in this post are by Melissa Vossler.)
Even before I knew a single thing about design, I loved grasscloth wallpaper. As someone who loves texture and bold design but is admittedly afraid of a lot of pattern, grasscloth is the perfect choice. Add Spoonflower—a source I’ve scoured and admired for years (I last used their wallpaper in my pantry project)—and it became a done deal!
Our entry went from dark and boring to bold and beautiful and I could not be more pleased! If you’re considering wallpaper, here are some reasons to put grasscloth at the top of your list.
First, grasscloth is a classic choice. I’m a bit of a commitment-phobe so the thought of choosing something trendy makes me sweat. If I’m going to do something quasi-permanent, I want it to have staying power. Grasscloth does! It’s been en vogue for decades and that’s not going to change any time soon. However, I love that you can take a classic paper like grasscloth, apply a pattern to it, and you’ve got a fresh take on a classic design choice.
Secondly, with Spoonflower’s grasscloth, you get texture and pattern. It’s the best of both worlds. If you choose to eliminate the pattern, the texture alone is enough to elevate a space. Choosing grasscloth in one of many colorways is another way to make your space stand out. (I was very tempted to put mauve grasscloth in my daughter’s room; how stunning would that have been?!)
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen that my samples consisted of solids, subtle patterns and bold patterns. Forgive the dramatics, but it was the hardest choice of my life. Ha! They were all so beautiful! In the end, I chose something that felt true to my style—a classic striped pattern with loads of texture, in warm tones.
Lastly, grasscloth lends itself to a variety of decor styles. Dreaming about the seaside? Choose something aquatic. In a boho mood? Try a geometric repeating pattern.
Thinking traditional? What about toile? More of a classic modern designer? Go with stripes or plaid! Or a subtle linen look!
I’ve seen grasscloth in a variety of applications and it never disappoints. It’s a special wall treatment that simultaneously feels both safe and daring.
One final note—if you’re a pro DIYer, you may be able to handle grasscloth, but professional installation is recommended. Make sure the person has worked with grasscloth before as its texture dictates careful treatment.
If you do go the DIY route, our installer recommended using delicate surface frog tape for double cutting—the process in which you overlap the paper and then cut through both layers at the same time to perfectly match the edges.
He also recommended Zinsser Shieldz Universal Wallcovering Primer, which isn’t too sticky to use with grasscloth. In addition, he said the paper is easier to remove when you use this type of primer. Our entry took about 6 hours to install excluding primer dry time.

Under the FAQ section at the bottom of that link, you’ll see a recommendation that dining rooms are ideal for grasscloth, but rooms like kitchens are not, as the paper is highly susceptible to watermarks.
For wallpaper that works well in a kitchen too, you might want to check out our Prepasted Removable Smooth Wallpaper, which you can read about in detail here: https://support.spoonflower.com/hc/en-us/articles/206335696-Prepasted-Removable-Smooth-Wallpaper.

Was wondering if the grasscloth texture is deep enough to become a dust-catcher? DO YOU have to DUST it? or is it as cleanable as other wall surfaces?
It looks really classic!

Just beautiful! Love the transformation. It really does add a richness and lightens up the entry. Like that such a simple pattern doesn’t overwhelm the space, but still adds a statement! Thanks ????
Yes, we agree as well! Tiffany did a wonderful job with this project!
Best,
