From formal rooms and nurseries to refurbished furniture, it’s easy to incorporate wallpaper into every home, but have you ever considered why statement wallpaper makes such an impact? We’ll give you one hint: Think big! We’ve outlined our top tips to help you create large scale wallpaper designs for your Spoonflower shop, a growing trend in the Marketplace.

Make an impact in your home with these featured wallpaper designs!
Go big… but not too big!
Spoonflower’s wallpaper has a set width of 24”, so the ideal size of your design elements should be a width that will evenly repeat over 24”. Larger design elements will repeat twice across your wallpaper when set at 12”.
If your design doesn’t evenly fit into 24”, our system will shrink the design down to the nearest size that fits into 24”. For example, if your large scale watercolor florals are 18”, they’ll shrink down to 12”. You can always double check the size of your design by reviewing the dimensions listed under the five repeat options on your design page.

For the length of your design, keep in mind that our wallpaper is printed 1′, 3′, 9′ and 12′ increments. Unlike the width of your design, the length of your design can be set to any dimension. Just remember that when you’re creating your design, Spoonflower can not accept files over 40 megabytes.

Choosing the Right Size
Did you know you can adjust the scale of your design specifically for fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap? Once you’ve uploaded your design, be sure to review all three product previews and default scales by selecting the specific substrate tab on your design page. If you make any changes to scales, remember to select “Save this Layout” before leaving the product page.

If you are setting your wallpaper design as a half drop, it’s very important to include special ordering instructions to ensure your customer orders enough wallpaper to complete the project with a seamless repeat. Please refer to Willowlane’s birch trees for a design description example.
Don’t forget to tag your designs with search terms like “jumbo” and “large scale” to help your design get discovered in the Marketplace. We also recommend adding the scale to your design title like littlearrowdesign’s Jumbo Scale Watercolor Monstera Leaf.

Large Scale Wallpaper Examples
gabbymalpas‘ Pink Peonies focuses on one large floral design and repeats once across the width of a wallpaper roll. For added impact, each peony is almost two feet tall. Tropical White by crystal_walen uses multiple large scale elements in her 24 x 40″ design. Crystal’s monstera leaves will turn your home into a botanical oasis, no watering required! When creating a large scale design, it’s important to remember that you’re not limited to working just with large scale elements. Large Scale Vintage Moroccan by littlearrowdesign finds a balance between larger details like the diamonds and hash marks and smaller accents like the plus symbol.

Thank you 🙂 Very helpful and stunning wallpaper!!!!
Yes I agree with Becket: a helpful write up and wonderful pictures of wallpaper uses! Definitely a blog entry to refer back to – and to share around!
great! I thought I had to stick to 8 inch on 8 inch. Doesn’t look good on wallpaper indeed! Thanks for writing about this subject.
Great article! And where could I find information on how to order samples of my large scale designs? Do I need to make any adjustments to the pattern, so that it fits in the one yard option? thanks in advance
We’re glad to hear you found the article helpful! Our test swatches for wallpaper are 2′ X 1′. If you are interested in fabric those swatches are 8X8″ but for larger designs it might make more sense (and save you money) if you use our Fill-a-Yard template. Learn more about Fill-a-Yard here.
Take care,

Hi, do you still print on wrapping paper? I’ve been looking for that option—-to print on fabric, wall paper or gift wrap— and I can’t seem to find the “gift wrap” button on the product page anymore. Jut wondering?
Thanks,
Grace
Hi Grace,
Thanks for your interest in Spoonflower! I am sorry to share that we will no longer have Gift Wrap in our product line-up. It was not an easy decision to make, but we are constantly striving to make changes that work better for our customers. To better increase efficiencies in our factories, reducing waste and our ecological footprint, we have decided to retire it for the time being.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Take care,
Amy
