It will have a sticky coating, which is protected by a peel off backing. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two lampshade rings:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ring 1 will have bars which join in the middle to connects to the bulb fitting.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ring 2 will be a smooth ring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Heat resistant double sided sticky tape<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A tool to neaten the edges of your lampshade<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instructions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want to make two lampshades at the same time? This final lampshade will be 21cm (8.26 inches) high. As you can see in the photo above, the repeat of the 3 woodpeckers became the focal point of this lampshade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prep your Lampshade Panel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29721 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/3-Decide-on-Placement.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Place your PVC on the designated area from the above step. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"m_5625518484358511945highlight\"><span class=\"m_5625518484358511945colour\"><span class=\"m_5625518484358511945size\"><span class=\"m_5625518484358511945font\">Take time to plan the layout of your piece of PVC and how you will cut your fabric to fit the size of the PVC. When using a lampshade kit, your piece of PVC will already be cut to size. It will have two peel away strips at either side along the length which are used to give you the correct width of fabric for wrapping around the lampshade rings. You will need to keep this in mind when planning out how to cut your fabric in preparation for sticking it to the fabric.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trace the PVC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29724 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4-Drawing-round-pvc.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trace your piece of PVC onto the unprinted side of your fabric so you know exactly where you will be sticking it.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Attach the PVC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29725 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/5-Attaching-PVC.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"746\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Peel off the first part of your PVC and stick it down onto your fabric, making sure to stay within the outline you made. It must be perfectly positioned &#8211; once it is stuck, you do not want to have to peel it off again! \u00a0Remove any air bubbles as you go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29726 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/6-Pulling-out-pvc.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Continue to peel the rest of the backing off, smoothing your PVC onto your fabric, being careful to stay within the drawn outline. Firmly smooth it down to remove any air bubbles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29729 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/7-Ready-for-trimming.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Your fabric should now have the PVC attached to the backside.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trim your Fabric<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29751 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Spoonflower-lampshade-remove-backing.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"417\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trim <strong>2 long sides and 1 shorter side of your fabric\u00a0<\/strong>within 1cm (0.4 inches) of the edge of the PVC<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>\u00a0<\/b>so it&#8217;s in line with the edge of the PVC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once you have trimmed your fabric, peel off the pre-cut paper edges on the PVC. This gives you the precise amount of fabric along each length required to roll the fabric around the lampshade rings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29732 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/9-Apply-double-sided-sticky.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To finish the shorter end of the PVC, stick a piece of tape that is the same height of the lampshade along the edge of the PVC.\u00a0This finished, neat edge of the PVC will end up being the top part of the seam of the lampshade, where the two ends of the PVC meet once it has been stuck to the rings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29734 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/10-Fold-over.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Fold the fabric over onto the tape, pressing it down firmly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apply the Tape to the Lampshade Rings\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Place the tape over the centre of the rings and fold it around. Once you have gone all the way around, peel off the backing of the tape. \u00a0Be careful: the rings will be very sticky!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Attach the Fabric to the Lampshade Rings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29741 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/13-Roll.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"751\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Starting in the centre of the PVC, stick the two rings onto the edge. At this point you will need to decide if you are making a lampshade which will be hung from the top or will go over a bulb from the bottom. Make sure you fit the ring which has the central supports the correct way round &#8211; that is, with the supports facing into the lampshade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29744 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/15-Close-up-rolling-over-ed.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Fold your fabric over the sticky rings, making sure to fold the fabric over both rings as you go. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><strong>Pro tip<\/strong>:<\/em> Head towards the unfinished edge first, then work the other way.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29743 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/14-Sticking-final-edge.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you are nearing your finished edge, stick a piece of tape over the fabric on the back of your finished edge. Roll your lampshade over and put lots of pressure on the inside of this seam with your finger to ensure it is well secured.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Almost there!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29745 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spoonflower.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/16-Tucking-in-edges.jpg\" alt=\"How to Make a Lampshade Using a Kit | Spoonflower Blog \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use the plastic tool provided in your kit to finish the edges by tucking the fabric behind the rings.
