Make it Monday is a weekly series where we highlight simple DIYs to work on throughout the week. Sew a couple seams or add a few stitches here and there each night to have a finished project by the weekend. Today's post comes from Spoonflower crew member Allie. She shares a fun embroidery project to whip up for your BFF!
This Christmas, I wanted to make something handmade for my best friend. Since college, we've lived four and a half hours apart–her in DC and me in Raleigh. While browsing the Marketplace, I stumbled upon this great little embroidery pattern by Kate Gabrielle. I love how it's like the BFF necklace of embroider patterns. Embroidery is a fun and simple project that can be a creative as you'd like. Start with a printed pattern or sketch something yourself on a piece of fabric, pick up a hoop and some embroidery floss at your local craft store and you're off and running! The possibilities are truly endless with what you can create.
- A swatch of fabric–I used Linen Cotton Canvas
- Embroidery floss + needles
- Embroidery hoop

A supernatural phenomenon has brought upon the collapse of society as we know it, prompting humanity to reorganize and your safety and survival to become a constant struggle–who lives and who doesn't? Our money's on the cockroaches and, of course, the microorganisms! This week, we asked designers to envision spooky post-apocalyptic scenes in the style of a traditional toile design. You'll be blown away by the designs they came up with. Vote now for all your favorites!
We're finally feeling that glorious fall weather here at Spoonflower HQ in Durham, NC. And while I've got a long list of autumn projects I can't wait to whip up, choosing the right fabric is usually the hardest part. If you too struggle with finding the perfect, seasonally appropriate print for your DIYs, then let me help! I've rounded up five fabrics from the Marketplace inspired by the 2015 Pantone Fashion Color Report.

Are you familiar with the tardigrade? Some people affectionately refer to it as the "water bear," and despite the cuddly nickname, it is the toughest animal ever to live! Tardigrades are the only animal to have survived all five mass extinctions on Earth, and like many microorganisms, tardigrades are very tiny, but very mighty. Join us in celebrating the multitudes of microorganisms that fill our every day lives and vote on your favorite microorganism designs today!
Has your pet been requesting a bed upgrade? Are they looking for something that better defines their personality than what’s available at your local pet store? Today, Spoonflower crew member Allie shares a fun how-to for creating a custom doughnut dog bed. Get the design here. Use her notes to create your own fried dough-inspired pet bed, or take her tips and make your own custom shape!
Earlier this year I got a golden retriever, which, subsequently, dramatically changed the life of Grace, my seven year old shih tzu. For seven years, she had been my only pet and thus was quite spoiled–until Ben came along and ruined everything for her.
Her basket of toys were quickly shredded and with all of her toys went her cozy little dog bed. In looking for a new bed for Grace, I thought it would be cool to make her an engineered dog bed. After toying with a few ideas, I decided on to run with the idea of a doughnut!
