Meet Fabric8 finalist Amy Peppler Adams (PennyCandy on Spoonflower), a graphic designer from Seattle, Washington, with a love for 1980s ephemera. Voting on the final Fabric8 collections starts tomorrow!
I love to paint, use pastels, and also make collages with old photos and ephemera. Being a graphic designer by profession, though, the computer is almost always my tool of choice. However, it is nice to go back to my roots now and then and do a drawing in pencil or ink and then only use the computer to convert it into a digital file.
My favorite artist has always been Andy Warhol. I love that he used a mix of fine art and commercial methods in his work, and chose everyday, commercial and pop-culture subjects. I also admire the work of Maija Isola, Orla Kiely, Art Chantry, the typographers of House Industries, and the design firm Pentagram.
This will totally date me, but my favorite band is The Police. Listening to music while I design is a must! It is inspiring and uplifting, and since a lot of my ideas for projects come from my childhood, playing music from the '70s and '80s makes me feel like I'm right back in the middle of it. I have a 3-1/2 year-old son, so often the only time I am able to work is late at night after everyone else has gone to bed. Music helps keep me awake!
I would love to meet Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder's version). Not only is he a creative, confectionary genius, but his eccentric personality is magical.
There are too many places on Earth I have yet to see, and there's a chance I could see them someday. So if I had the chance to go ANYWHERE, I would choose somewhere completely out of my reach, literally and figuratively: outer space!
