design challenge themes
It’s hard to believe summer is coming to an end, but here at the Spoonflower HQ, we can’t help but feel the excitement for cooler weather and the most magical time of the year – our annual fat quarters sale! To help prepare, we’re challenging you to create your very own cut-and-sew fat quarter project, one of our most popularly requested design challenge themes this year. If this is your very first challenge, don’t forget to review how to submit an entry before you get started and as always, have fun!
Can you believe Spoonflower’s very first design challenge was held almost 8 years ago? The daffodils theme challenged the Spoonflower community for the very first time and holli_zollinger’s daffodils_yellow won the hearts of the community as she took home our very first grand prize. Since then, the weekly prompts have made Thursdays our favorite day of the week (after Saturday, of course!). We can’t wait to see what designs make it into the winners’ circle during our May and June challenges.
If this is your very first challenge, don’t forget to review how to submit an entry before you get started and as always, have fun!

2018 marks Spoonflower’s 10 year anniversary and as we continue to grow, we are dedicated to keeping our ecological footprint small in sharp contrast to today’s textile industry. From a print-on-demand process designed to minimize our fabric and ink waste to a small garden outside our North Carolina headquarters that is filled with herbs, lettuces and cherry tomatoes planted (and enjoyed) by our employees, sustainability is at the heart of all that we do. As we approach Earth Day on April 22, we hope this month’s design challenge themes will inspire you to ask yourself how you’re making a positive impact on Mother Earth.
Gardening | Results Announced April 19

If you’ve been trying to design more in 2018, why not set a goal of entering all four challenges this month? Can’t commit to all four weeks? That’s OK! Our monthly challenges are designed to encourage your creativity in a fun way that works with your busy schedule!
Sisterhood Around the World | Results Announced March 15
From the beginning, women have always played a vital role at Spoonflower. From the dedicated women on our team to the creative and ever-inspiring women in our community, there wouldn’t be a Spoonflower without women. On March 8 people all over the world will be honoring International Women’s Day and we invite our community to join the celebration during this week’s design challenge. From proudly marching with your sisters or showing support for those around you, we challenge you to create a repeating design honoring what sisterhood around the world means to you. Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close March 6 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 8. See official rules.
