Designers: you’ve tackled novelty animal prints, quirky winter themes, and gathered inspiration from creative hobbies and cocktails alike. Now it’s time to switch gears and take a month to return to the artist’s favorite math class: Geometry. Based on requests from our designer community, surface design trends and popular searches, we’ve carefully selected 5 geometric themes this month. Some are rooted in spiritual practice (mandalas), others we’re used to seeing in nature (hexagons), and there are a few other super fun themes in between that we think you’re going to love.

Year of the Rooster(y)

Happy Lunar New Year! According to Chinese zodiac, 2017 is the year of the rooster, more specifically the “Fire Rooster” which only comes around once every 60 years. Roosters are thought to be the “time keepers,” signaling when to start the day. They are the ambitious early risers, the hard working feathered friends of the zodiac. At Spoonflower, we feel 2017 is going to shape up to be the year of Roostery — our new sister brand that brings custom fabric to finished home goods. Today Kate from the Roostery team is stopping by the blog to share some of her favorite rooster themed Roostery products! Because what could be better than coming home to roost in a house full of rooster themed designs from Roostery? Okay now that was a tongue twister…

It’s finally time to round out the year with our annual calendar tea towel tradition–a ritual at once bringing closure and welcoming the oncoming year and all that it holds. Congratulations to Nadja Petremand of Lille, France, who is this year’s winner! Nadja will receive $469 in Spoondollar credit. The rest of the top 10 winners will receive one Linen Cotton Canvas Orpington tea towel in their own winning design from Roostery ($17 value). The rest of the top 25 will have their design proofed automatically and made for sale in the Marketplace where they can earn commission of up to 15%.
