If you’re like me, you love personalizing and decorating your space with pictures of special and exciting memories. Your living space should reflect who you are and should make you feel good when you’re inside of it. Which is why every six months or so I look around my house and think, “I love all this stuff…but it’s time for something fresh.” Feeling the same? Spring cleaning got your house in need of a splash of color? Want your new memories to adorn your couches and walls? Then read on for 6 easy, DIY photo to fabric projects to customize and brighten up your space.
Word blurbs and vacation photos stretched on canvas
This is probably my favorite photo project because it’s easy AND cheap. This project can be completed with a staple gun, canvas stretcher bars ($7 from Amazon), and a fat quarter of your favorite design on Linen Cotton Canvas Ultra ($14). Check out the step-by-step photo to fabric tutorial here.
Make a pillow from your favorite photos!
Another great project is turning your photos (or your favorite designs from the Spoonflower Marketplace) into pillows. Pillows are super easy to sew, and make great, personable gifts. Or, you can keep them to yourself and give your couches and chairs a special, personal touch. This tutorial focuses on creating a pillow using a single photo. Here’s another tutorial if you’re looking to create a photo collage pillow.
If you’ve got too many photos to choose from, try making a photo collage using Woven Peel and Stick wallpaper. These repositionable wallpaper cutouts can be arranged in a frame, like in the above picture, or just on the wall by themselves. Check out this quick photo sticker tutorial.
Photo Lawn Flag
Are outdoor decorations more your speed? Never fear, we’ve got a project idea for you, as well. These lawn flags can be created using the same process as the photo pillows. Simply choose a photo, size it for the amount of fabric you’ll be ordering (this one was made with one fat quarter of Linen Cotton Canvas Ultra, so 27″ x 17″). Once the fabric arrives, trim the edges and the registration marks, fold over the top and sew a finishing stitch for the metal rod to go through. This project came to us from Carmen, the World’s Proudest Grandma. Read more about her here!
For those who want to be close to their animals every second of the day, make one of these animal pillows! Upload a photo of your favorite furry friend–the examples here are dogs and cats, but Spoonflower is open to all varieties of creatures–and print onto the fabric of your choice (we recommend Linen Cotton Canvas Ultra or Eco Canvas). Follow the rest of the steps here!
Protecting your iPad or Kindle is important business, but so is preserving your memories. Why not combine the two? Use this crafty solution to keep your device stylish and comfy. Learn to collage your photos, sew printed fabric pieces together, and even apply a snap button closure with this guide.
