As Spoonflower has grown from two families working together in Mebane to over 170 employees working in both North Carolina and Berlin, we have wanted to give back and help serve our local community in a more meaningful way. With this goal in mind, we established our Volunteerism Committee in December of 2015. So far, the committee has found wonderful projects for Spoonflower to support including adopting a family for Christmas, donating children’s books to Book Harvest, and sponsoring JUST TRYAN IT, which provides assistance to the families of children with cancer. Beyond these wonderful organizations, Spoonflower also offers its employees paid time off specifically designated for volunteering with any nonprofit of their choice.
You know those 4" x 4" little swatches of printed fabric you find tucked lovingly into your Spoonflower fabric orders? These swatches may be small, but they are mighty! From covered buttons and graphic shirt pockets to elaborate pieced quilts, we are always astounded to see what people do with them. Now, we want to see what you can create your free 4 inch swatch.
We've redesigned the small swatches that ship in every Spoonflower fabric order to make it easier to snip off the text and make the most of your printed fabric morsel. Now it's up to you to stretch your creativity, and start doing big things with these tiny fabric squares. Such as…
Right now at Spoonflower Headquarters, spring has sprung. Everywhere you look a new flower is blooming and trees are filling back up with leaves we’ll need for shade once our steamy North Carolina summer hits. Everything is fresh and beautiful and it reminds us in the most magnanimous way why we have dedicated ourselves to protecting our environment and being a sustainable company.
In April of 2015, a devastating earthquake hit Nepal and left many homeless. Across the world in Durham, NC, Spoonflower’s own Anitha Kothandaraman wanted to do something to help. Anitha came up with the idea that the employees of Spoonflower could use its resources of remnant fabric and energetic, creative employees to sew blankets for Nepal. Just like that, Spoonflower’s Blankets for Good program was born.

Our Fleece is a double-faced, low-loft, 100% polyester knit napped fabric. This lightweight, cozy Fleece is ideal for blankets (including no-sew-tie baby blankets), pillows, plushies, adult and youth loungewear, and cold weather apparel. Hemming is optional with this fabric as it doesn’t fray when cut, making this Fleece perfect for novice and experienced crafters alike. This fabric is engineered to show crisp design detail and long-lasting vibrant color, truly making it “not your average fleece”!
Get excited–Spoonflower is officially shipping from Berlin!! If you’re based in Europe, Africa, Asia or the Middle East and have placed an order over the past few days on our website, you may have noticed a few changes to your cart. This is the first step in internationalizing the Spoonflower website to make it more user friendly for our global community. Over the next few months we’ll continue to release more features, like the option to use the site in multiple languages and currencies.
To access the new cart and have your orders processed through our German factory, you don’t do anything differently.
Simply add fabric, wallpaper or gift wrap to your cart. Select your country from the drop down menu in the bottom right of the cart in the “Delivery Options, Promo Codes and Credits” section.
Then click “Continue to Checkout.” At the moment, this service is only available to those checking out with a credit card and PayPal. We plan to rollout more payment options in the future.
If you’re accessing the site from Europe, you’ll be redirected to a new cart. You’ll notice the price is still in US dollars, but VAT, or tax from your country, is now included. Paying VAT upfront allows your order to skip customs and saves you from a long trip out to the customs office. Here, just enter your shipping address and payment information and you’re all set! The rest will take place on our end. We’ll process your order through our Berlin factory and you’ll receive your order a lot faster without the chance of customs charges!
With this change comes a restructuring of shipping costs. Customers in various European countries will now receive lower shipping fees. Find a full list of countries and the shipping cost group that applies here.
Community members based in the US, Canada and Australia will see no changes to shipping costs.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our customer service team by emailing email@example.com.
We’ve all had the experience of seeing a beautiful surface design on Spoonflower and thinking… “gosh, that would make a beautiful… pillow, tea towel, tablecloth maybe even a chair!” Then life gets in the way, and we just don’t get around to actually starting… or finishing the project we envisioned. Or for others, you may be after a custom product but lack the sewing skills to actually make it yourself (hey, we can’t all be good at everything!). Here at Spoonflower, we are excited to share that we have a small team that is working to help bring your unique home dec projects and ideas to life, no sewing skills required.
We believe in a world that is secure & open for all.
Spoonflower Statement on HB2
As one of North Carolina’s fastest growing companies, Spoonflower considers equality to be a core value to its own business and, more broadly, to a climate that fosters growth and economic development in our state.
Defying the interests of North Carolina’s business community, our state legislature passed a bill, #HB2, on Wednesday March 23rd that opens the door to discriminatory practices against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, bans local governments from passing their own non-discrimination policies, and makes our beloved state look bigoted in the eyes of the rest of the world.
As an eight-year old startup that has grown from the kitchen tables of its two co-founders into an international business with over 150 employees, Spoonflower’s success depends on the talent and contributions of all its team members, including those who are part of the LGBT community. We value and protect the diversity of our workplace, which is what makes us strong, creates a positive and productive work environment, and draws new customers to our brand.
HB2, and the sentiment behind it, makes it harder for Spoonflower and other technology companies to lure talent and capital to our state, and reflects a misplaced set of priorities on the part of North Carolina’s governor and the lawmakers who voted for the bill. The North Carolina we know and love is not a place where prejudice is sanctioned. The mission of our governor and legislature should be to craft policies that make our state stronger, more inclusive, and more competitive.
So to our LGBT friends in North Carolina and across the world, we want you to know that we stand with you. #WeAreNotThis.
This past Saturday, over 30 community members and Spoonflower employees spent the afternoon sewing RARE Bears for one-of-a-kind kids supported by RARE Science Inc., a non-profit research organization accelerating cures for rare childhood diseases. On this very special afternoon, quilt guilds, sewing groups, and crafty individuals stitched up bears all over the country to Spring into Action. From California to here in Durham, North Carolina, it was RARE Bear mania!
