Announcing February 2023 Design Challenge Themes

Spoonflower’s Weekly Design Challenges encourage creativity by inviting our community to submit designs around a theme and vote on favorites to win weekly prizes. See what design challenges are coming up and which designers were crowned grand-champion in past challenges here.

What throw pillow designs will you create with a limited color palette of Sand (#CEB6A3), Dark Oak (#3E2118), Saddle (#764324) and Santa Fe (#9A6841)?

Our merchandising team has curated a palette (see below) of on-trend earth tones that provide a warm atmosphere in any space. We’ve supplied the color palette and product, but the design inspiration is up to you!

An Important Note About Your Entry:

Artists must use 2, 3 or all 4 colors from the provided palette of Sand (#CEB6A3), Dark Oak (#3E2118), Saddle (#764324) and Santa Fe (#9A6841). View the palette below. Do not introduce black, white, additional colors or tints and shades. Remember that Spoonflower throw pillows are best with repeating designs (rather than centered artwork).

Entries will be previewed on a throw pillow. Submissions close January 24 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins January 26. Winners will be announced February 2. See official rules.

You’ve just been given the chance to hop in our time machine, where will you go?

Over the last year we’ve traveled to the 1800’s, 1920’s, 1970’s and early 2000’s through Design Challenges. This week you’re in the driver’s seat. Take us on a journey to your favorite time period, even if it hasn’t actually happened yet!

Pick a room, any room! Every day, consumers and interior designers are looking for wallpaper for specific rooms in their home. This week your challenge is to choose a room and create the perfect wallpaper design to adorn the walls. From bathrooms and laundry rooms to kitchens and libraries, how can you breathe life into even the most mundane spaces?

Entries will be previewed on a roll of wallpaper. Submissions close February 7 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins February 9. Winners will be announced February 16. See official rules.

From rainforests to deserts, 15,000 – 25,000 species of mosses can be found in many ecosystems throughout the world.

This week these diverse and resilient plants are your inspiration. Will you explore the color, texture or even luminosity of moss? Or will you zoom in to illustrate the microorganisms and invertebrates that live beneath the surface? There is no shortage of inspiration packed into these microhabitats. 

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close February 14 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins February 16. Winners will be announced February 23. See official rules.

One Grand Prize Winner each week will receive $200 in Spoondollars. The winner will also receive additional exposure in our email newsletters and social media mentions.

The 2nd place winner will receive $100 in Spoondollars.

The 3rd place winner will receive $50 in Spoondollars.

4th through 10th place winners will receive a $20 Spoondollar credit.

Each of the top 50 entries, determined as set forth above, not receiving one of the foregoing prizes will be automatically proofed for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace (approximately a $5 value) (the “Runner Up Prize”) if winners are verified sellers.
