Announcing August 2022 Design Challenge Themes

Back to school has never felt so sophisticated! Explore the trending aesthetic surrounding literature and education but with a gothic twist. 

Think of old candlelit libraries with high shelves and deep corridors, classrooms cluttered with research papers, specimens and other findings, or a writers workspace with waxed-sealed envelopes full of romantic poetry. Moody color palettes will be your friend in this challenge, so don’t afraid to go a little dark. 

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close July 26 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins July 28. Winners will be announced August 4. See official rules.

With almost 200 orbital launches planned for this year, 2022 is on the way to becoming a record breaking year in space travel. 

What is it about space exploration that intrigues you? Finding answers to the unknown? Advancements in technology? Or perhaps just the sheer spectacle of it all? Bring these ideas back down to Earth and create a design fit for the walls of a nursery or the bedding of a rocket scientist.

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close August 2 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 4. Winners will be announced August 11. See official rules.

Frolic through fields of flowers, but turn them into classic curtains! 

This week’s challenge is simple: florals but with a retro twist! Will your design display large-scaled flower power with bright colors, or maybe something more ditsy and sweet? Your entry will be previewed on a Spoonflower curtain panel, so keep scale in mind.

Entries will be previewed on a 50″ x 84″ curtain panel. Submissions close August 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 11. Winners will be announced August 18. See official rules.

Crystals and potions and spells — oh my! 

Gaze into your crystal ball, light a colorful candle and channel your inner witch to create something magical. Imagine your design being used for Halloween home decor or as fabric to make a year-round witchy wardrobe.  

Entries will be previewed on square throw pillow. Submissions close August 16 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 18. Winners will be announced August 25. See official rules.

One Grand Prize Winner each week will receive $200 in Spoondollars. The winner will also receive additional exposure in our email newsletters and social media mentions.

The 2nd place winner will receive $100 in Spoondollars.

The 3rd place winner will receive $50 in Spoondollars.

4th through 10th place winners will receive a $20 Spoondollar credit.

Each of the top 50 entries, determined as set forth above, not receiving one of the foregoing prizes will be automatically proofed for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace (approximately a $5 value) (the “Runner Up Prize”) if winners are verified sellers.
