Cosplay, the art of dressing up to portray a character, has a strong and fast-growing presence on social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. Maybe you’ve stumbled across a photo of someone cosplaying a superhero at a fan convention or a video showing the sewing process of a screen-accurate outfit.

Cosplayers Jinglebooboo, Cosplay Choco and Kumalatte Cosplay

Social media plays a key part in the cosplay community, with millions of people actively posting and engaging with cosplay-related content. Anyone can search through cosplay hashtags and discover endless collections of photos, videos, conversations, tutorials and more and discover people who share similar interests in the media they cosplay from.

Anna, a former member of Spoonflower’s Brand Marketing team and cosplayer herself, has rounded up 10 cosplayers who are the definition of talent and create amazing cosplays — from historically accurate ballgowns to full sets of armor. Each of these creators post fantastic content about their work and provide inspiration for crafters and sewists of all levels. Continue reading to meet them!

Meet the Cosplayers

Kaye Cosplay

KayeCosplay.com

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

The level of detail and precision Kaye Cosplay puts into her craft is so beautiful and simply head turning! Last year when I attended Holiday Matsuri, a cosplay and fan convention in Florida, I saw the cosplay pictured on the right displayed in a walk-through exhibit. From the different trims, textures and colors of fabric to all the sparkly beads and jewels I found myself staring at it in awe for a solid 30 minutes. She is also a big fan of Spoonflower — check out her designs here!

A.K. WIRRU

AKWIRRU.COM

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

A.K. WIRRU is one of those cosplayers you come across and can’t stop thinking about, from his insanely detailed armor builds to his funny videos about the realities of cosplay. In 2019, he brought the cosplay pictured below to the World Cosplay Summit, the world’s most competitive craftsmanship contest for cosplay, and took home the grand prize. Fun fact: the lining fabric is from Spoonflower!

Allie Cat Cosplay

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

I once saw something from Allie Cat Cosplay that read “it’s my love language to replicate characters,” which makes perfect sense if you look at the things she’s made. She excels in SO many areas of cosplay — dress making, armor building, wig styling, prosthetic casting… I could go on for a while! I adore the variety of characters she chooses to transform herself into.

Avant Geek

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

Avant Geek is the definition of creative cosplay. Think of a material, and she can probably figure out how to make a dress from it, such as newspapers, Taco Bell packaging, dollar store materials or even toilet paper! Her designs are filled with originality and quality, and I always look forward to what she’s going to come up with next.”

Casey Renee Cosplay

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe the gowns that Casey can make. Her cosplays are known for having a historical touch and have won many awards at big-name cosplay conventions. Her content is always so informative and in-depth, allowing for anyone regardless of skill level to tune in and learn about sewing. As someone who has sewn many dresses for my own cosplays, Casey is a huge inspiration, and I love watching her create!

Kumalatte Cosplay

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

Kuma is simply so good at cosplay. It’s like every character she chooses was designed just for her! I constantly talk about her work, such as the layers of intricate embroidery for a skirt I just watched her finish on Instagram. Her cosplays originate from many of my favorite series, movies and games, so I’m always looking out for her next project.

Jinglebooboo

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

Jinglebooboo by far has some of the cleanest cosplay work I’ve ever seen. Every seam, every edge and everything overall has a high level of professionalism and quality that makes her stand out from the crowd. I love her attention to detail and accuracy! Fun fact: she made the haori on the right with Spoonflower’s Sport Piqué.

Cosplay Choco

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

One day, I was scrolling through TikTok and discovered Cosplay Choco twirling in the stunning red cosplay pictured on the left. I then learned it took her over 150 hours to make! As a lover of all things textiles, she’s always sewing up something new with her favorite fabrics and creating fun content showing her skills in action.

Nonbinate

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

If Nonbinate has an idea for a cosplay they’re absolutely going to put 110% into it, whether it’s building intricate props or styling their wigs and makeup flawlessly. No matter the character, they can transform themselves into the spitting image and more. This is someone you simply don’t scroll by. On top of cosplay, they’re an amazing artist and overall a wonderful human to be around!

Bambi Lashes Design

Why this cosplayer stands out to Anna:

Bambi Lashes Design has some of the most flawless cosplays I’ve ever seen and posts my favorite type of cosplay content! She’ll break down a look she created piece by piece and explain every last detail, from 3D modeled accessories to ombre-dyed fabric to even handmade heels! I love that she chooses characters that will involve a lot of different elements because watching everything come together in the end is always so much fun.

  • I don’t know anyone doing cosplay now. Though I think these faux velvet designs would be fun to incorporate into costumes, especially steampunk. https://www.spoonflower.com/en/collections/554931

    • Hi Kathy,

These 10 cosplayers are a great start to learning more about the cosplay community! 🙂

Also, I’m in love with that sepia crinkled velvet, it looks almost metallic and I could see cosplayers using it for various projects. I decided to add it to our cosplay collection of designs if that’s okay with you! Said collection can be found here, as well as linked at the bottom of this blog post and another cosplay-related post from a few weeks ago. Thanks for showing us your designs!

      Best,
      Anna
