Adorning your walls in Grasscloth wallpaper is the ultimate upgrade. Made with 100% natural sisal fibers, it provides a warmth and texture to your walls that just can’t be replicated with other materials. Ahead, Spoonflower ambassadors Jordan and Barry of The Brownstone Boys show us how they were able to breathe new life into a “dead end” hallway using grasscloth wallpaper featuring a Kate Rhees design that will have your heart ready to take flight. Prepare to be inspired!

One of our biggest pieces of advice for someone moving into a new space is to truly live in the space for a while and decorate as you go. It’s always a work in progress, and that is what makes it fun! We all need time to adapt into a new environment and see where the perfect piece of furniture will go, where a bright pop of color should go, or for us… where to put the perfect wallpaper print! We knew deep down inside we wanted to add wallpaper to our home for quite some time but there’s so many different things to consider: where to put it, how much wallpaper is too much, what print and pattern and what colors. We had all these questions and more!

We built our DIY coat storage hook shortly after our main renovation was complete. Our hallway in the parlor floor sort of dead ended and was the perfect place to hang our winter jackets and a place for guests to hang any of their personal belongings when they come to visit. It is definitely located in the darkest place in the home. We also ignored this space that needed some love until we learned of the new Grasscloth Wallpaper from Spoonflower.

Pro Tip

Spoonflower requires professional wallpaper hangers for grasscloth. We have been hanging wallpaper for 8 years across multiple number of properties, allowing us to install grasscloth in this space!

After

Spoonflower has been a personal favorite source of ours since learning about them years ago! Spoonflower is a global marketplace connecting makers and consumers with artists worldwide. They’re revolutionizing the textile industry through their on-demand digital printing technology and eco-friendly, sustainable and scalable manufacturing processes. We strongly believe in their beliefs and LOVE the community they are constantly searching across the globe to be part of! We have used their prints in several of our projects that you might remember: the bathroom at Hibiscus Brew, the powder room tropical getaway at Greene Ave Glow Up and even our bright drag queen brick pattern in our speakeasy laundry room! Spoonflower has some many different prints and creative artists that help create the most amazing spaces in any room you are working with!

When we learned they are starting a grasscloth line, we knew it was time to wallpaper! What is grasscloth you might wonder? Grasscloth wallpaper is our favorite because of the texture that it creates! The woven sisal fibers create a layered and luxurious look, adding an element of elevated sophistication. Spoonflower provides the combination of naturally-textured sisal wallpaper with an endless option of digitally-printed designs for a truly unique product. A staple from the ’60s and ’70s grasscloth is a designer-favorite option for instantly elevating any room, as it creates a more layered space and brings an element of intimate coziness with its unique texture.

Spoonflower’s grasscloth wallpapers are made from the finest sisal fibers and digitally printed to offer more color options than traditional screen printing. It means that you can choose and order your grasscloth wallpaper design with confidence knowing that it will look fabulous once installed. Due to the unique texture of these wall coverings, we recommend that you hire a professional to hang your grasscloth wallpaper.

We had such a tough time deciding on the print and location to put the wallpaper because every sample we ordered we fell in love with. The Whooping Crane print truly stole our hearts. The bright color yellow would brighten up the entire coat hook and give an illusion there’s more light coming from that space.

In one short afternoon, we were able to transform our coat nook space into the most colorful area in our home! We even added a bright green paint to the paneling that we think blends in perfectly with the space. There’s only one problem we have now! And that is we want to add more grasscloth wallpaper to the surrounding wall of the coat nook! We’re obsessed!
