As more countries have mandated masks for the foreseeable future, we have seen a growing trend within the community: while you may be covering your mouth and nose, you don’t need to cover up your personality (or your voice). From pet lovers wearing masks to match their furry friends to chefs modeling masks featuring their daily specials, people all over the world are letting their masks do the talking.

2020 is an important election year in the United States and it is no surprise voter registration and mobilization has become the latest rally cry to appear on face masks. Keep reading to find out how Vote.org is driving awareness this election season while prioritizing your safety with Spoonflower’s Custom Face Masks.

“With the election right around the corner, partnering with Vote.org offered a timely and relevant opportunity to kick off our business-to-business mask-making capabilities. COVID-19 and social distancing requirements are making voting more challenging this year, so we’re honored to partner with Vote.org to encourage safe voting for everyone.”

We are proud to partner with Spoonflower in creating these masks and hope that they will help spread the message that it is crucial to participate in this fall’s election. By making voting safer, and in turn, getting more people to vote, we create a strong, more representative democracy.”

About the Designs

“The rainbow design encourages us to hold onto hope and is also about solidarity and pride. The stars reflect a true love of country and our belief in democracy. The fade from red to purple to blue is inclusive. It is important that everyone votes, no matter who you vote for—vote. One of this country’s greatest assets is its diversity. People speak lots of different languages, if we want to reach them, we need to speak their language. We want everyone to participate in our shared democracy. Designing these fabrics has been really fulfilling. If we can motivate people to VOTE and spread the message, not the virus – that will be really rewarding.” – Artist Annie Luskey

Meet the Artists Behind the Masks

Like many makers in the community, Washington, DC based artists and activists, Annie Luskey and Kate Damon (k8&annie on Spoonflower) were inspired to use their masks as a way to share the message of voting. Lifelong artivists, together they collaborated on the designs for Vote.org to inspire people to register to vote, to vote, and to spread the message.

Annie: In March, I devoured the news. As it became clear there were not enough masks for healthcare workers, I dusted off my ‘vintage’ BERNINA sewing machine and went online in search of fabrics. This is how I discovered Spoonflower, my 2020 highlight! I began making masks and quickly realized what an excellent messaging board they are. My message is VOTE.

For artist K8, designing specifically for this project brought her a sense of hope. “It gives me life and purpose. That perhaps sounds dramatic, but this is the kind of work that gets me out of bed in the morning. Things that have PURPOSE, that are made with LOVE and spark JOY.”
