From ghoulish haunted houses and eerie graveyards to skeleton brides, vampires, witches and zombies, this month kicks off with our Gothic Halloween Design Challenge. Inspired by all kinds of creepy creatures and places, the Gothic genre is a dark one but is also one of the trendiest Halloween styles, especially for our European markets. We invite you to have a spirited time and showcase your spookiest Halloween patterns for one of our favorite nights of the year!

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close August 25 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 27. Winners will be announced September 3. See official rules.

As the holiday season approaches, crafters from all over the globe are looking for memorable ways to connect from afar with their friends and family. In this week’s Cut-and-Sew Fat Quarter Giftables Design Challenge, create a cut-and-sew project that would make gift-giving all the more enjoyable. From commemorating special milestones to playful items like plushie toys, ornaments, or even nursery mobiles, think outside the gift box with your unique design. Not only would your project make a wonderfully creative present, but it could also be an activity for families to craft together during the holidays.

Think “the more the merrier” but take it to the max! The trends have spoken and this holiday season, more is more when it comes to seasonal decor, so don’t hold back—the more baubles the better! From Christmas to Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, solstice themes and beyond, deck out your holiday design in richly embellished excess fit for a true maximalist celebration. While conceptualizing your work, be sure to keep the final end-use in mind from dining products, furoshiki gift wrap, velvet pillows, and more to create an aesthetic of excess.

To celebrate Spoonflower’s 500th Design Challenge, we are shining the spotlight on you the artists, for we would not be us without you! We’re so grateful that you’ve stuck with us for 500 Weekly Design Challenges, and are still in awe of your talent every single day. To honor the community we’ve built together, we’re inviting you to share a fresh design that showcases your signature style and creative contribution to the world. No matter the topic or medium, consider how this design will let your personality shine as an individual and as an artist. This is an open theme challenge that honors the immense talent and diverse styles within our community, and the only guidepost is to be true to yourself.

Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close September 15 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins September 17. Winners will be announced September 24. See official rules.

Grand Prize

One Grand Prize Winner each week will receive $200 in Spoondollars. The winner will also receive additional exposure in our email newsletters and social media mentions.

Second Place

The 2nd place winner will receive $100 in Spoondollars.

Third Place

The 3rd place winner will receive $50 in Spoondollars.

The rest of the top 10

4th through 10th place winners will receive a $20 Spoondollar credit.

Each of the top 50 entries, determined as set forth above, not receiving one of the foregoing prizes will be automatically proofed for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace (approximately a $5 value) (the “Runner Up Prize”) if winners are verified sellers.
