From ghoulish haunted houses and eerie graveyards to skeleton brides, vampires, witches and zombies, this month kicks off with our Gothic Halloween Design Challenge. Inspired by all kinds of creepy creatures and places, the Gothic genre is a dark one but is also one of the trendiest Halloween styles, especially for our European markets. We invite you to have a spirited time and showcase your spookiest Halloween patterns for one of our favorite nights of the year!
Entries will be previewed on a 21” x 18” fat quarter. Submissions close August 25 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins August 27. Winners will be announced September 3. See official rules.
As the holiday season approaches, crafters from all over the globe are looking for memorable ways to connect from afar with their friends and family. In this week’s Cut-and-Sew Fat Quarter Giftables Design Challenge, create a cut-and-sew project that would make gift-giving all the more enjoyable. From commemorating special milestones to playful items like plushie toys, ornaments, or even nursery mobiles, think outside the gift box with your unique design. Not only would your project make a wonderfully creative present, but it could also be an activity for families to craft together during the holidays.
Remember to include instructions on your pattern if needed. Not sure where to start? Don’t miss our 7 Tips for Designing a Cut-and-Sew Project.

From Christmas to Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, solstice themes and beyond, deck out your holiday design in richly embellished excess fit for a true maximalist celebration. While conceptualizing your work, be sure to keep the final end-use in mind from dining products, furoshiki gift wrap, velvet pillows, and more to create an aesthetic of excess.
