Dinner for Two
Even with a busy weeknight schedule, Dabito of Old Brand New easily adds style to his table with masterful pattern mixing and matching. His three picks are great options for anyone looking for affordable style. While his table might not have all the bells and whistles of a traditional tablescape, we think his choice of designs instantly elevates dinner, even if it’s just takeout.
“I’m calling this one my ‘pink lemonade’ tablescape. The round tablecloth is Shibori Wing Spots (Cherry) by nouveau_bohemian. It has hints of navy and yellow so I paired it with yellow dinner napkins, using innamoreva’s design Tropical Geometry. Both patterns have very organic shapes so they complement each other perfectly.”

Breakfast of (Design) Champions
We’ve always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s safe to say our appetite agrees! But just because you might be waking up for the meal doesn’t mean your table decor has to be a snoozefest. Look at how the master DIYer Jenni of I SPY DIY transformed her dining area into a quaint breakfast bistro with napkins, a tea towel and farmhouse-inspired tablecloth. With a table set-up like hers, you’ll be wishing you had BTO: breakfast time off.
“I picked out franbail’s Grain / French Feed Sack design for the tablecloth, with palifino’s Watercolored Check, Blush Pink Tea Towel to add just a little color to the table, plus wickedrefined’s Rooster Strut Dinner Napkins for the egg bowl. The combination of prints makes me so happy, and I wish every morning I could sit for hours and sip coffee at this carb-loaded breakfast!! Next, I want to order some fabric to sew up some Roman shades for this dining nook.”

Timeless Tablescape
Want to know the trick to creating a seasonal tablescape that can still be used throughout the year? Think outside of the box with your color palettes like the lifestyle and home decor blogger behind As Told by Michelle. By avoiding traditional fall colors like orange, red and brown, and motifs like foliage and pumpkins, Michelle’s citrus tablescape still has a fall feel thanks to the additional decor she’s added to her space. Add fall foliage from your backyard or create a centerpiece with gourds for a cozy, autumnal scene, and then play up the citrus elements later on in the year for summer-fun vibes.
“Patterns are everywhere during the fall! When I was creating my tablescape, I wanted patterns that could be functional during the fall as well as all the other seasons of the year. I decided to go with a color scheme that could be used during the spring and summer months as well.”

Serve Up Tropical Resort Vibes
If Tiffany of My Eclectic Nest taught us anything, it’s that there’s no such thing as a too-colorful tablescape. Her bold choice to incorporate shades of yellow and pink are definitely giving us tropical resort vibes, and we’re anxiously awaiting our invitation to breakfast at Tiffany’s. By sticking with a cohesive palette, Tiffany is able to play with patterns and have fun while keeping it cohesive.
“I love tea towels, however I have a bit of a time finding designs that are funky and modern. Most seem to lend themselves to a farmhouse style which, although being very cool, doesn’t work for my home style. I was so happy to see that the line of table linens includes tea towels that I would definitely want to see hanging around, like in evamatise’s Boho Birds / Bohemian Paradise print!”

Mixing and Matching Patterns
Are you hosting for the holidays and feeling the pressure? Decor blogger Wendy of The Kwendy Home knows the feeling all too well, which is why she’s taking the guesswork out of styling your holiday tablescape. From mixing and matching patterns to adding warmth to your table with candles, Wendy’s tips will have you looking like a pro to your guests in no time.
“Mix textures and patterns for visual interest. You can do this by adding pillows, throws and napkins. By picking a classic pattern such as stripes in the same colour family, like with crystal_walen’s Watercolor Stripe + Gold Dots Teal Dinner Napkins, I add a different pattern without visually interrupting the colour scheme. It is also important to break up the pattern with some negative space when you have lots of patterns as well.”

The More the Better
If you could describe Australian designer Sarah of The Flamingo and Fox’s style in one phrase, we’re pretty sure “more is more” would be it. Her colorful approach to interior design brings a joyful feeling to any room she gets ahold of, including her dining room table.
“I chose rubydoor’s Flamingoes in Orange and Pink eye-catching bright flamingo print for my tablecloth, a simple monochrome mudcloth print for the placemats (scarlet_soleil’s Mudcloth Placemats) and introduced an element of tropical greenery for my napkins with sara_consafos’s Club Tropicana Dinner Napkins. I’m so thrilled with how it has come together—don’t be afraid to mix up your colours and prints to personalise your dining space! “

I wish more designers would make coordinates for just this purpose. I have recently bought some fabric from patricia_lima who has done just that and I plan to make pillows, placemats and napkins using her wonderful pattern coordinates that really work together for my outdoor dining space. Colours match, designs are different but a segment taken from the master design to make the coordinate designs is how to do it! She has accomplished this beautifully.
