What do you get when you mix 20 home dec bloggers, 20 rooms and six weeks of room transformations? Currently in its fourteenth season, The One Room Challenge™ is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over the six weekly posts.

This spring, one featured designer and three guest designers took on the transformation challenge and brought Spoonflower along for the ride! By the time you’re done viewing these four projects, you might just be inspired to participate in the Fall One Room Challenge this October.

Using the motto “the bold and the beautiful” as inspiration for her ORC transformation, Jewel Marlowe of Jeweled Interiors did not shy away from electrifying color for her entertainment space makeover. Teaming up with Spoonflower designer Ashley Peterson—twobirdstones in the Marketplace—to make her vision a reality, the two created a palette of oversized prints with lush purples and deep blues. Combined with the sheen of Celosia Velvet™, Ashley’s designs took on a whole new level of elegance in Jewel’s home.

For Jewel, no project was too big of an undertaking. By the end of the project, she had wallpapered the space with Jungle Tigers, reupholstered the most magical Craigslist couch in Velvet, designed her own wall art and installed a chandelier, to name just a few of her projects.

After nine years of living in her home, Haneen finally gave her kitchen the home makeover love it deserved during the spring One Room Challenge. As bold and colorful as I like things in the design world, I’ve actually always been drawn to classic kitchens! So, I decided to keep things simple with a backsplash, but still needed some doses of fun throughout the space, and that skinny wall is just perfect for that! Yes, it’s a bit wild, but that’s the joy of wallpaper- way easier to change than tile!” -Haneen

With the ability to order custom lengths and choose from over 650,000 designs (or create your own), adding a pop of color in untraditional locations makes home makeovers easier than ever.

The wallpaper from Spoonflower is so perfect on a skinny little wall like this. It’s bold and fun and easy to handle in small doses. Lol I was so excited to add this unexpected graphic wall. Every room needs a conversation piece. This is it as you turn the corner into our kitchen.” -Haneen

Fable Floral Blush by nouveau_bohemian

Interior designer Jenna Sue had a grand vision for her master bedroom makeover—an effortlessly chic and restful oasis inspired by French-Bohemian style. Drawing from a blend of textures, re-purposed vintage, practical elegance and a touch of glamour, Jenna centered the look around Roostery’s Langshan sheets in a floral pattern by nouveau_bohemian.

Generally, I’ll spot a pattern I love first, and that will become the inspiration for the rest of the bed (or entire room). I found this floral sheet set on Roostery and was drawn to the whimsical hand painted pattern.” – Jenna

The 256 Project

Taking a step back into time with her home from the early 1900’s, Régine and her partner have taken on the challenge to renovate their first home and chronicle the adventures on their blog, The 256 Project. Referred to as The Cozy Cottage, Régine’s One (skinny) Room Challenge focused on her entryway, staircase and upstairs landing.

While this isn’t a room, per se, I am taking a cue from Erica Reitman, who did a skinny makeover (her words) for the Fall 2017 ORC, and I loved it. I’ve chosen this area because it’s the one area in our house that doesn’t require a major renovation but also hasn’t been touched yet. I’ve also been wanting to get to it for the past two years and still haven’t, so it’s time.”

After dining out at a restaurant that had a wallpaper covered bathroom door, the lightbulb went off for Régine’s next DIY project. Like they say, “when life gives you lemons, wallpaper your entryway door.”

Once the custom floral design was complete, Régine gave her door transformation a try and needless to say, the end results have completely transformed the space. Be sure to read up on Régine’s tips for wallpapering a door before you recreate the look!

Whether you’re feeling yellow vibes or ready for a nod to mod in your home, the perfect design for your next DIY home dec project is waiting!
