Warm weather is right around the corner and that means fun games in the summer sun. Cornhole is one of our favorites to play, which is why we’re so excited about this DIY cornhole beanbag tutorial. Stitch up a full set of bags (official rules call for eight!) in no time using only 1 yard of Spoonflower’s Eco Canvas following the video below, or check out the full step-by-step instructions right after it.
Here’s What You’ll Need for this Project
- 1 yard of Spoonflower’s Eco Canvas (one yard will make 12 beanbags) – we’re using Summer Watermelon Seeds by ileneavery
- Beans, corn, or your choice of filling
- Hand-sewing needle
- Thread
- Small funnel or piece of paper rolled into a cone (used for filling bags)
- Sewing machine. We’re using our Bernina B 350
Pro Tip: Use Spoonflower’s Fill-A-Yard™ feature to get two designs on one yard, and create a full set of bags plus four extras!
*All seam allowances should be sewn at ¼” unless otherwise instructed.
Cutting Out the Pattern Pieces
Begin by cutting out eight squares from your Eco Canvas each measuring 6.5” x 6.5”.
Assembling the Beanbags
With right sides facing, sew two of your fabric squares together leaving a 2-3” gap between the beginning and end of your stitch line. Repeat this process until you have three beanbags.
Filling and Finishing the Beanbags
Clip the excess fabric from all corners of your sewn beanbags and flip right side out. Use a point turner or knitting needle to poke out the corners.
Using a small funnel (or piece of paper rolled into a cone), fill your beanbag to the desired weight. Official cornhole rules state that each bag should weigh 14-16 ounces.
Once filled, stitch the gap closed by hand with a blind hem stitch.
And just like that, you’ve got a complete cornhole beanbag set!

Hi Leah, we recommend measuring the base board to find out how much fabric you’ll need! Each yard is 36″ long and the width is dependent on the fabric type you select.
