From a challenge inspired by International Women’s Day on March 8 to a prompt that will have you dreaming up your next fixer upper, this month’s design challenge themes will spark your creativity (and maybe even your taste buds!). If you’ve been trying to design more in 2018, why not set a goal of entering all four challenges this month? Can’t commit to all four weeks? That’s OK! Our monthly challenges are designed to encourage your creativity in a fun way that works with your busy schedule!
From the beginning, women have always played a vital role at Spoonflower. From the dedicated women on our team to the creative and ever-inspiring women in our community, there wouldn’t be a Spoonflower without women. On March 8 people all over the world will be honoring International Women’s Day and we invite our community to join the celebration during this week’s design challenge. From proudly marching with your sisters or showing support for those around you, we challenge you to create a repeating design honoring what sisterhood around the world means to you. Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close March 6 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 8. See official rules.
For this week’s challenge we’re heading to the race tracks with the party planning experts at Black Twine. A celebratory weekend at the track wouldn’t be complete without iconic cocktails like mint juleps, larger-than-life hats, roses and of course, horses! Using your favorite medium of choice, we challenge you to create a repeating design incorporating what you’d see from this equestrian sport. To sweeten the deal, the winning design, chosen by Black Twine from the popularly voted top 25, will be featured in a special Off to the Horse Races party. Find out more about this week’s design challenge partner here. Entries will be previewed as Roostery’s Malay Round Tablecloth. Submissions close March 13 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 15. See official rules.
This week’s theme is a twist on a community favorite, the limited color palette. After selecting one color (hue) of your choice, put your skills to the test by creating a repeating design only using tones, tints and shades of this hue, including (but not required) black and white. New to creating monochromatic designs? This helpful color palette generator will guide you along the way! Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close March 20 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 22. See official rules.
By the end of this week’s challenge you’ll be ready to plan your next backyard barbeque! Fire up
the grill your favorite design program to create a repeating design inspired by the savory bites you’ll find at any cookout. Don’t forget to include your favorites like hot dogs, hamburgers and other summer staples like watermelon! Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close March 27 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins March 29. See official rules.
Calling all Fixer Upper fans! This week’s challenge is just for you. Modern farmhouse style is known for its warmth and simplicity, clean lines and use of natural textures and materials like wood or galvanized steel. Iconic to the modern farmhouse style, the mainstay of cream as a thematic color choice presents the perfect canvas for neutrals or bright and bold hues. Entries will be previewed at the fat quarter size: 21” x 18”. Submissions close April 3 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Voting begins April 5. See official rules.
