The Thread Count Myth
Our bedding collection features 300 single-ply thread count: The perfect mixture of cozy comfort and a relaxed, yet durable feel. Most consumers purchase bedding that is between 200-400 thread count, and a higher thread count does not always mean better quality. In fact, manufacturing techniques can now allow for a higher thread count by using weaker multi-ply thread which does not translate to increased quality. How do the facts stack up? Read below to find out more.
What is thread count?
Thread count is determined by adding the warp threads with the weft threads in a single square inch of fabric. The warp are the threads that run up and down, held in the loom during weaving. The weft are threads that run horizontally across the width of the fabric, woven through the warp threads. For example, fabric with 125 vertical or warp threads and 125 horizontal or weft threads would have a thread count of 250.
Multi-ply vs single-ply thread:
Thread count used to be a primary identifier of quality in bedding and a measure that consumers used to choose sheets. In the early 2000s, the first set of sheets with 1000+ thread count hit the market. Manufacturers experimented with ultra-fine fibers to create multi-ply thread, then counted multiple strands per thread in their thread counts. For example, if 125×125 sheets were made with 3-ply thread, the thread count jumps from 250 to 750, which falsely implied a more luxurious product.

Hi
Can I design my own bedding through Roostery or does it have to be done through my spoon flower account?
Thanks
Louise
Hi Louise,
Ready-made bedding is now available directly on Spoonflower! Once you’ve uploaded your design, select “view all products” on the left hand side of your design to view your design on all the available home decor items. I hope that helps, but if you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Are you going to offer percale for sheets? I’m a hot sleeper and don’t care for the feeling of sateen. I only just learned about Spoonflower and rushed to the site specifically for sheets.
Thank you so much for your interest in Spoonflower and your feedback. I will pass along your fabric suggestion!
Best,
Amy

I’m in total agreement ladies. An a la carte selection would allow a maximum mix of color and pattern! This option is exactly what would entice people to shop here; and it certainly wouldn’t affect a buyer who wanted matching sheets. A la carte is the bedding wave of the future!
I am in total agreement about NOT selling sets, allowing fitted & flat sheets to be sold separately. I never use flat sheets & feel I’m wasting my money when forced to buy a set. This is the prime reason I end up buying from The Company Store where you can purchase everything separately. PLEASE consider changing this for Roostery.
Yes I agree I’d like the option of mix and match “sets” or just individual prices. Those flat twin sheets make great curtains!!!!
Hi Tara,
Thanks so much for your feedback! We’ll be sure to pass this along to the development team at Roostery.

It would be nice to be able to get a duvet set (so, a duvet and two flange or straight pillowcases), and separately (a single, flat sheet would be nice). Thank you!
I would like to suggest that sheeting items be priced individually rather than sets. Very often folks have more than two pillows on their bed. It would be nice to mix and match the designs for the various items. I hope you will consider this. I am looking forward to ordering sheets and pillow slips in designs and amounts that meet my needs.
Thank you very much.
Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the feedback! At this time, Roostery does not sell fitted sheets separately from the flat sheets, however there are two options for those who wish to mix and match pillow cases on their bed. Roostery’s Seabright flanged pillow shams and the Campine pillow shams are both sold separately and are lovely ways to coordinate your sheet sets!

I would love to see individual flat sheets offered. The fitted sheet has to fit the bed obviously, but I’d like larger flat sheets to cover two people adequately. In other words, a queen size fitted sheet but a king size flat sheet.
Hi Sue Ellen,
Thanks so much for your feedback! We’ve passed along your suggestion to the team at Roostery.
I always use a flat sheet under my duvet cover as it is bulky & needs ironing, so I can wash it less often. This means less wear, so the most expensive item won’t need replacing so soon, & actually less of a chore for me. Another layer under my goose down quilt helps protect that too. It is much easier to wash the top sheet regularly. However I still like to buy these seperately, as will wear more than the duvet cover, & I might want to mix & match. Everyone has their own preferences. (Also grts hot here in Summer, so only a top sheet required).
I am surprised to see that you are selling a sheet *set* instead of individual items. I don’t know about you, but when we started using a duvet, we stopped using a top/flat sheet, since the duvet cover fills that role. So what’s the point of a sheet *set*? It’s just extra cost, work, and profit for you —- and extra cost to me for something I am not going to use on the bed, and therefore must either store it or find another use for it or increase the cost yet more by getting rid of it. It seems to me that selling the fitted sheet and the flat sheet separately would result in less cost and work for you, and more profit ultimately, since more people would by the individual items instead of the *set.* Not only that, but it optimizes the print-mixing possibilities, especially if one could also buy the pillow cases separately. Just a thought….
