Spoonflower’s Senior Email Manager, Suz, stops by to show us a knock out project: a quick and easy DIY to make your wedding, party or event invitations stand out in the sea of potential RSVPs this season. This can be done with any fun print on a swatch of Spoonflower’s Smooth Wallpaper, but we’re going crazy over watercolor florals this season, so we’ve chosen Sprigs and Blooms // coral by ivieclothco. Need inspiration? The Spoonflower Marketplace has over 1.8 million designs. Check it out in the video tutorial below!

Here’s the written tutorial/transcript if that’s more your style:

Materials

Here’s what you’ll need for this project:

  • Envelope
  • Liner paper – we’re using Sprigs and Blooms // coral by ivieclothco on Spoonflower’s Smooth Wallpaper (but you can use any fun coordinating paper)
  • Scissors
  • Pen or pencil
  • Glue stick
  • Something to crease your paper (we’re using a ruler, but you can use your hand, or something heavy!)

Let’s get started!

We’re going to create our envelope liners so you can still use the envelope’s original adhesive afterwards. It is just as easy to cover the adhesive on the envelope and seal your envelopes with a sticker. Keep in mind stickers are best for hand delivering your letters, since the sticker might not hold up in the mail.

Tracing Envelope Liner | Spoonflower Blog

Start by laying out your envelope on your liner paper. Trace around the envelope with a pencil or pen.

Cutting Out Liner Paper | Spoonflower Blog

Next, we’re going to cut out the outline of our paper. Cut just inside of the lines you made, so that your liner paper fits snugly into the envelope without bunching up.

Pro tip: this first liner can also double as your template if you’re making more than one envelope!

Sliding Liner Paper into Envelope | Spoonflower Blog

Slide the liner paper into the envelope. Fold the paper inward until it doesn’t cover the adhesive on the envelope, flatten the crease, then cut the excess paper on the crease. This is easier to see on the non-printed side of the paper.

Gluing Liner to Envelope | Spoonflower Blog

Crease your envelope + liner. Affix glue or double-sided tape to the back of your liner, and stick it to the inside flap of your envelope.

And voila! Now, fill the envelope with your perfect invitation or card and drop it in the mail to brighten someone’s day. Find more DIY wedding ideas to help get the party started!
