  • I want to make some scarves with my own design. I was considering the silky faille fabric but just read about your chiffon and wonder which would be better for scarves? Also, what is a common size for scarves? The width is only 54″ so that would be the max length if I run the design that way. Can I make a design that runs lengthwise but is more than a yard long? I am using some original artwork that will be one design over the whole scarf, not a repeating design.

    • Hi Karen,
Thanks so much for your question! Chiffon is a great option for a lightweight, sheer scarf. You can certainly have a design that is wider than 54″. All you need to do is rotate the design 90º prior to uploading your design to Spoonflower. If your design ends up being wider than one yard, simply adjust the number option in the drop-drown menu after you’ve selected yard as your size. I hope that helps, but if you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask!

  • Does anyone have advice for machine sewing with chiffon? I bought some to make some scarves but it’s getting ruched up in the machine. I’ve read that you should put tissue underneath but I’m sewing some looong seams!

    • Can you maybe also lighten up the pressure of the presser foot on your machine? I was apprehensive about sewing with the chiffon myself, but I just finished sewing two scarves with it and was amazed that I had no issues with it and didn’t even need a Microtex needle! (I did use a *new* needle.)

    • Hi Louise,
We’re sorry to hear the Chiffon is giving you trouble! We recommend using a sharp Microtex needle to prevent bunching. You may also want to consider using an appropriate interfacing if you’d like to add a little more structure to the fabric. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
