Ashley Mason is a web developer on the Spoonflower team, who started out on the print team. She’s well known in the company for being a triple threat! Not only does she write code, she’s also a talented surface designer, (she always kills it in our staff design challenges) and has been selected to design a collection for a large Eco-Friendly fashion show. Get to know Ashley through the 12 questions below!
The first thing I want you to know about me is: I am an aspiring fashion designer! I had my first eco-conscious line debut on the Redress Raleigh runway last August, and in 2017 I’ll be working on translating my runway designs into digital patterns. I love making people look as fierce on the outside as they are on the inside.
My secret talent is: turning any boring chore or office task into a song.
The very first thing I do in the morning is: Barter with the dog for 10 more minutes of sleep before we go on our early-morning walk around the neighborhood.
The last book I read is: ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’. Can’t wait for it to get to Broadway in 2018!
The last song I listened to is: ‘You Got Her in Your Pocket’ by the White Stripes. Jack White did a stellar acoustic performance of this song on the Jimmy Fallon show a few weeks ago, and it has been stuck in my head ever since.
I take my coffee: to someone else. I am not a coffee drinker, which just means more for the rest of the office.
I loooooove: NC barbecue. There is a great little hole-in-the-wall place (Backyard BBQ) down the road from Spoonflower HQ, where you can often find me at lunchtime lined up for collard greens and mac n cheese.
I’m really proud of: reaching my two-year Spooniversary in August. I’ve worked everywhere from floor operations, to the print room, to (nowadays) Engineering building new features for the Spoonflower website. It’s been a crazy journey!
The podcast I never miss an episode of is: I don’t really listen to podcasts. It’s hard to listen to people talking while I am focusing on writing code, so I spend a lot of my time on Pandora or Spotify.
My favorite Spoonflower designer is: Natelle Quek (natelledrawsstuff). Her creatures are so adorable and her cat + food crossovers inspire my inner crazy-cat-lady.
My favorite type of fabric is: Cotton Spandex Jersey! It is great for clothing, and holds its shape well even after lots of washings. I have a whole collection of dresses made from CSJ that I love to wear to work.
My favorite design in the Marketplace is: “See Through You” by mjmstudio.
