Want to turn your table into a spooky setting for a Halloween feast? Heidi Kenney (our resident Queen of Halloween) is stopping by the blog today to share the how-to, using her cut-and-sew placemat template available in the Spoonflower Marketplace. Designed to be printed on 54″ wide fabrics (linen would also work), a fat quarter fits two placemats, and a yard gives you eight. Pick a FQ or yard up in Eco Canvas fabric, then follow her easy steps below to sew up these adorable placemats for a table-scape that’s fit for a family of goblins and ghouls!

1. Cut out placemats on the edge, then I like to roughly cut out a backing fabric and plain white fleece (you could also use fusible fleece or a thin layer of batting).

step 1: Cut out placemats on the edge
2. I use quilting spray glue to adhere all layers together, backing fabric with wrong side up, then a layer of fleece, followed by placemat with right side up. At this point you could quilt the whole thing or leave as is. Trim off excess backing fabric and fleece using a rotary cutter and ruler.

3. Sew on your bias tape around the entire edge, then clip or pin in place and hand stitch the bias tape to finish.
