We all know that for sewists, crafters & designers alike, the holiday season starts even before that last Labor Day beach trip. Now’s the time to get fresh, seasonal designs into your Spoonflower shops for Halloween costumes, treat bags, tablescapes and beyond! With that in mind, September’s prompts will take your design libraries from summer to fall holiday-ready.
How it works: To participate, you’ll simply upload your design to Spoonflower, make it “public” and add in that week’s specific tag. Each week will have its own special tag, which is how participating designs will be found on Spoonflower.
September Prizes: On September 30th, Spoonflower will draw one random winner from the total number of participants all month long to receive a Fiskars Prize Pack (Original Orange Handled Scissors, 3 different tag punches, paper trimmer) and $50 in Spoondollar credit. While you are welcome to tag your existing designs with the Weekly Prompt official tags, only new designs created just for the weekly prompts will be eligible to win this prize.
How do you choose the themes? September’s themes are in keeping with popular search terms for the Autumn holiday season. By keeping the designs in your shop fresh, seasonal and on-trend, you increase your chances for success and earning back those “proofing” dollars. So without further ado, here are September’s themes:

- August 29th – Sept. 4th: Black Cats Vs. Ravens — Spoonflower Tag: sept2016catsvsravens : Once upon a midnight dreary, grab your paints and make it eerie. This week we’re asking you to channel your inner Edgar Allen Poe, who brought a supernatural magic to both of these dark, mysterious animals in his poems.
- Sept. 5th – Sept. 11th: Monster Mash — Spoonflower Tag: sept2016monstermash : Zombies, mummies, werewolves, vampires… perhaps not inherently evil, just misunderstood? Let us see your take on the aberrant creatures that keep us up at night, peeking behind shower curtains and under beds.
- Sept. 12th – Sept 18th: Sugar Skulls — Spoonflower Tag: sept2016sugarskulls : Día de Muertos (Mexico’s Day of the Dead) kicks off on October 31st and rages on until November 2nd. Traditionally, southern and central Mexicans would celebrate & honor the deceased with sugar skulls (or calaveras) made of brightly colored sweets and flowers. How will you design yours?
- Sept. 19th – Sept 25th: Autumn Harvest — Spoonflower Tag: sept2016autumnharvest. Oh my gourd… Thanksgiving is right around the corner so create a design worthy of donning the finest tablescape! Pumpkins, squash, corn, seasonal flowers in shades of yellow and burnt orange–with what will you fill your theoretical cornucopia?
Happy designing, friends– we can’t wait to see what you create!

Yay!!! Monsters….right up my alley, I love it! This will be fun. I love this time of year too.
Glad you’re just as excited as we are, Amy! Can’t wait to see what you create!
Am I missing dates for submissions on these prompts?
Thanks, Spoonflower ❤️
My question exactly.
Hi Diane, the submission dates are written out in the post, directly to the left of each design prompt (August 29th – Sept. 4th was the submission date range for Cats Vs. Ravens, for Monster Mash it’s Sept. 5th – Sept. 11th).
Hi Mary Ann, the submission dates are written out in the post, directly to the left of each design prompt (August 29th – Sept. 4th was the submission date range for Cats Vs. Ravens, for Monster Mash it’s Sept. 5th – Sept. 11th).
So this means that Spoonflower decides the winner. The weekly voting by Spoonflower members is still not being offered?
Hey AJ, there is no voting for Weekly Prompts, this is just a creative challenge and not a contest. We will return to a voting platform again (winners are determined by the public) in October so stay tuned!
Hi. I don’t see a drop down option to enter in the Autumn Harvest challenge this week. What am I missing?
Hey Jen! There’s no drop down to submit a design for the weekly prompts. Simply add the tag “Sept2016AutumnHarvest” to your design under the “tags” section.
