Tag blanket DIY

A tag blanket is a quick and easy project perfect for a new baby. This project takes no time to whip up and makes a great baby shower gift or present for the newest child in your life. The best part, you can get four out of a yard of Kona! Make tag blankets for everyone!

For this tag blanket sewn up for my sweet niece, I used Ivie Cloth Co’s Old Maid’s Puzzle Cheater Quilt // Polka Dot Aqua and Ankepanke’s Letters.

Materials:

  • One 15″ x 15″ Kona square
  • One 15″ x 15″ square of a textured fabric (I used Minky)
  • Twenty 5″ ribbons
  • Pins
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Iron

Steps:

Cut out your two 15″ x 15″ squares, one from each of your fabrics. I used Kona for one side and Minky for the other.

Cut your ribbons into twenty 5″ pieces.

With one of your square pieces laid out with right side facing up, fold each ribbon strip and start placing them around the edge, loops going toward the blanket’s center. Make sure you fold your ribbon with the right sides facing out. Place the raw edges on the edge of your fabric square.

Once you have places all of your ribbons, lay the other fabric square on top, right side facing down.

Pin around the edges to secure the ribbons in place.

Sew around the perimeter of your blanket, leaving a small opening to turn your blanket right side out.

Turn blanket right side out and iron flat.

Now you’re ready to hand stitch the opening closed. Use a ladder stitch by hand, or you can sew right along the edge of the opening with your machine. And there you have a finished tag blanket to entertain and delight!
