Today starts our favorite promotion of the year– 2-for-1 fat quarters! It’s the perfect time to stock up on tea towels, an easy to sew, wonderful handmade gift that fits on a fat quarter of fabric. So to help you out with your holiday shopping, Spoonflower is holding a two-for-one tea towel special starting today and running for the next week. Here are the details:
- What: Buy two fat quarters of fabric on Spoonflower for the price of one. [Most tea towel designs fit on a fat quarter.] A fat-quarter of linen-cotton canvas (which works well for tea-towels) is normally $14, so it will cost $7 during the period of the promotion.
- When: Thursday, November 6 (9am EST) through Wednesday, November 12th (at 10 pm EST).
- How: Add two fat quarters (or any other number) and you will get half-off the regular price. The discount will be calculated automatically and the promotional price will appear in your shopping cart.
FAQ:
1) Are these tea towels finished products?
No, they are not. Spoonflower just sells fabric, so the tea-towel calendars and other kits (stockings, kits, etc.) arrive to you as fabric and in order to use them as gifts you’ll need to hem, cut & sew as needed. Unless you’re giving them as kits to someone else who sews, which is also a fun idea.
2) If I’m a designer, will my commission on sales be half of what it normally is?
Nope. You’ll still earn up to 15% in Spoondollars of the un-discounted price.
3) Do I have to buy two fat quarters of the same design to get the promotional price?
No, the promotion will apply to all fat quarters, so you can use it for as many different designs as you like.
4) If I buy one fat quarter, will I automatically receive a second, identical fat quarter?
No, if you want two pieces of fabric, you will have to add two to your shopping cart (or adjust the quantity in the cart to be two rather than one).
5) Do I receive a discount if I buy two fat quarters on two different fabrics?
Yes, each fat quarter you purchase will be half of its regular price.
6) Does this promotion apply to all fabric, or just tea towel kits?
The buy-one-fat-quarter, get-one-free promotion applies to all fabric for the duration of the special. But it applies ONLY to the fat-quarter size, not to yards or swatches.
7) Can’t I just add a yard of fabric to my cart and get four tea towels?
The special offer applies only to fat quarters. In some cases, it might be possible to get four tea-towels by buying a yard of fabric… but most designers have set up their tea towels to be centered. If the design is centered then you have to order it as a single piece. For tea towels this is usually a quarter yard, but for an apron kit, for example, it might be a single yard. This special is a discount for fat quarters only.
Wow! I am so ecstatic about this deal! These make great gifts. Thanks Spoonflower!!!
Does this apply if I want to order my own design printed on fat quarters? I’ve been giving tea towels for the holidays for years – but my own prints done by Spoonflower.
This is so so awesome! I am excite =D
Yes, you can most certainly order your own designs!

Allie
Sorry to ask a silly question but this is the first time I’m seeing this idea. If you click the shop tea towels link, it takes you to the tea towel designs. Does this fabric have to be added as a “front” to another plain fabric, or do you hem the fat quarter and call it a day?
Thanks.
Along the same lines to the comment above… I’ve never made a tea towel before. I just purchased 4 fat quarters from Spoonflower. Can someone suggest instructions on creating the tea towels?
Thanks!
Hi,
You can just simply hem or serge the edges of your fat quarter to have a lovely finished tea towel. It’s quite simple and makes a wonderful handmade gift.

Hi Christina,
All that is needed to make a tea towel is to serge or hem the edges of your fat quarter once it arrives. A very simple way to create a handmade gift!

Hi — can any of my own designs be printed on the fat quarters, or do they have to be tea towels? Thanks!
Can you tell us where to find the designs in your photo?
What is the difference between a fat quarter and a quarter of a yard? I would think a fat quarter would be enough for a pillow. Thanks for your help, I’m new too!
If you order 2 fat quarters of the same print will they be continuous or 2 separate pieces? Also what if I order 4 pieces? All one or 4 separate? Thank you!! Exciting promotion.
Awesome!
Hi Tara,
If you order two fat quarters of the same print, they will arrive as two separate pieces. Same for four pieces, you will receive four separate fat quarters.

Allie
Hi Melinda,
A fat quarter is a quarter of a yard– no difference at all. And yes, you can typically make a pillow from a fat quarter, depending on how large of pillow you like!

Allie

Hi Diana,
Feel free to print whatever you'd like on fat quarters!

Just to clarify for this budding seamstress. A FQ measures approx. 22 by 18 and a 1/4 yard is 9 inches by 44/45. You could not make a pillow from a quarter yard of fabric, without seaming or making a less than 9″ pillow but you can use a FQ to make a pillow front. I’m sure this is old info for you Allie and you are speaking for the Spoonflower site, but this customer apparently does not know the difference so even though you don’t sell quarter yards, it would be helpful for her to know if she is shopping elsewhere as well. Carol
Thanks for your note, Carol! For further clarification– the size of a fat quarter from Spoonflower will depend on what fabric type your order and will be a quarter of the printable size. So for linen, you would receive a piece of fabric sized 27″ x 18″ (since a yard prints at 54″ x 36″) and using 1/4″ seam allowance you could get a square pillow that is at least 17.5″ x 17.5″ using two fat quarters. Hope this helps, Melinda! If you need more clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact our help team at help@spoonflower.com

Thanks, just wondering why a fat quarter is usually $14 when a yard of the linen cotton canvas runs about $27. I’m trying to match color, so obviously a $7 fat quarter makes more sense than a $5 swatch. Interested in to see the coral and fern leopard. Is there a solid fern or coral for piping?
For the modern jersey fabric, what are the measurements for a fat quarter?
A quarter yard is linear, so whatever the width is, you cut 1/4 yard all the way across. To cut a fat quarter, you cut 1/2 yard straight across the entire width. Then you fold it in half and cut it again. 1/2 yard will give you 2 fat quarters. The reason this is important is that a quarter yard is a long skinny rectangle and a fat quarter is more like a square.
Is there a solid coral that coordinates with the coral leopard and a solid green for the fern leopard? Thanks!
Hi Kristi,
A fat quarter of Modern Jersey is 28" x 18".

I wanted to print family photos and make a quilt. Would this fabric work well for that?
I was excited when I read this at first because I made these as gifts last year. I bought yards and cut them into 4 pieces. It seems like most of the designs can be bought in yards and then you have 4 tea towels for about the same price as the 2 for 1 deal. So unless the design that you happen to like can only be purchased as fat quarter, this deal seems like not a huge deal. So I’ll just buy the yards again.
Help! I’m trying to order the 2-for-1 Fat Quarter Sale but the sale price isn’t showing up in my order. It’s almost Wednesday! What am I doing wrong?
Hi Deb,
Sorry you're having trouble. When you add a fat quarter of a fabric it should automatically change the price. If you're still having trouble, please email help@spoonflower.com so they can work with you to figure out what's going on.
Best,
Allie
