Spoonflower team member Kelly turned a coffee table into a soft and chic upholstered bench for her home using our new Faux Suede. See how she did it! (Note: Our Faux Suede has been retired, but you can check out our other upholstery fabrics here!)

Kelly: I inherited a coffee table that my father made during college in the 1960s. I remember seeing it at my grandmother’s house tucked away in a corner when I was growing up, and later stashed in my parents’ basement for a few years. The table has such a beautiful base, but as far back as I could remember, it never had a prominent place in any of our family homes. When Spoonflower introduced Faux Suede, I knew I wanted to give it new life in my home as a bench!

Table to Bench
I used this Curbly tutorial by Mod Home Ec Teacher to guide me and Southwest Diamond Chevron Faux Suede fabric by alison_janssen. I had planned to tuft the bench seat, but I made the mistake of drilling the holes for the buttons and tufting too small. So here is a tip, if you want to tuft, drill your holes pretty large. Otherwise you will not be able to get your needle back through. I learned the hard way, but I am super happy with the way my new bench turned out!
