This past weekend, we were delighted to be a part of the annual Make A Blanket Day put on by our local chapter of Project Linus in Raleigh, NC. Project Linus is an organization devoted to comforting kids and teens facing serious illness and trauma with a gift of their own handmade security blanket. Since our local chapter was founded by Susie Holmes in 1996, area "blanketeers" have donated over 27,000 blankets to local agencies and hospitals. Their recent Make A Blanket Day was a huge success, and we were so excited to present our finished quilting bee blanket created by members of our Greenhouse community!
Local Project Linus coordinator Susie Holmes accepts our Greenhouse blanket.
This past fall and winter in the Greenhouse, we invited members of our community to use fabrics we printed from Spoonflower designer Leanne's Hello Spring! collection]to create any design quilt block they liked. To size each unique block, we used white sashing, and a great friend to the Greenhouse offered to quilt our blanket on her longarm machine. We are so wowed by the results!
From fabric to our finished quilt, it takes a village Greenhouse!
We love working with our local chapter of Project Linus, and they put on an amazing community event with last Saturday's Make A Blanket Day. The whole room was abuzz with activity as volunteers of all ages worked on blankets to donate. It was so good to see some familiar faces from the Greenhouse community's "mini" Make A Blanket Day!
Adele used yarn from our Craft Supply Swap for this lovely baby blanket.
The finishing touches– sewing Project Linus tags and poems onto each blanket.
Whipping up a robot cheater quilt by Spoonflower designer Katarina.
Amazing crocheted quilts with bright fleece squres in the mix! So warm and colorful!
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our quilting bee, and a HUGE thank you to all of the amazing folks who work with Project Linus to coordinate such a huge effort with such a lasting impact. Sometimes making someone feel better is as simple as providing a little warmth with a handmade blanket from the heart.
Thanks so much for letting Spoonflower be a part of this year's Make A Blanket Day!
