Some of us in the Spoonflower office are very into pretty dresses–especially the vintage kind–so when we realized this morning that Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing, the much anticipated title from talented sewist Gretchen Hirsch and author of Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing, had finally been released for sale, we snapped up a couple of copies quick. One copy will live on the Spoonflower sewing library shelf (when we aren't fighting over who gets to borrow it), but one copy is for one of you to win during this week's giveaway! I haven't laid eyes on a real book yet but, having been helped with a couple of dress projects by Gertie herself at a Heather Ross sewing workshop earlier this year, I'm confident that her book will be as helpful and charming as Gertie herself. I hope you all are as excited about this book as I am!
To enter this week's giveaway for a copy of Gertie's new book, just leave your comment below or on the corresponding Facebook post. Do include your Spoonflower screen name so that we can find you easily if you're our winner, and tell us all about your favorite dress style if you're so inclined. Entries will close next Tuesday, 9/11 and we'll announce a winner on 9/12. While you're waiting to find out if you've won the book, you may want to pick up one of Gertie's new Butterick sewing patterns, a gorgeous cocktail dress and double-breasted coat. Good luck, vintage style mavens!
Last week we gave away the winner's choice of a lovely Sewaholic sewing pattern and four yards of Spoonflower fabric to make it up in, and the winner was Danica King in Seattle. Congratulations, Danica!
So excited for this book! *fingers crossed* 🙂

One wonderful giveaway after another, it’s really nice! I’ve been following Gertie’s blog for a while and I’m sure the book is full of interesting tips (and great patterns of course). One of my favourite dress style is a full-skirted 50’s inspired dress. You can guess I’d love to get my hands on this book. Thank you for the giveaway! My email is lholy_chan [[at]] yahoo [[dot]] fr

I want to be entered please! madamknitsalot is my spoonflower username.
Thanks, looks like a gorgeous book.
I would love this book!
Oh, I’m so happy she’s written a book! Although I like retro, I’m into any period with long skirts; the 1950s require a tiny waist, which Gertie has and I don’t. I’m madamehardy on Spoonflower.
Looks like a great read!

Wow this would be wonderful.
Spoonflower giveaways are awesome!!!
Wow! Books are the best!
I love a well fitted strapless Aline dress!
Wrap yourself in gladwrap (actually best if someone else does this for you), cover that with tape and cut up for the perfect flat pattern. Bone garment and add a inner belt. Perfect. Nothing worse than a strapless falling down.
Oh, this would be lots of fun!

Looks like a terrific book – love the cover pic!
This is awesome! I’ve been trying to make my own style of dresses for a while now — taking unique, fun patterns but still having a formal cut to them. I really enjoy making (or trying to make!) skull cocktail dresses and monster pencil skirts. There’s just something fun about taking “odd” or “strange” patterns and mixing them with such a simple, stylish and classy cut. 🙂
