I really thought this was a cute puppet! I’m glad it won!
I AM disappointed in where my design ended up in the vote… 🙁
The birds on a wire (NOT A PUPPET) got the SAME number of votes for this puppet contest as I did… I’m kind of… make that extremely bummed…
Maybe I shouldn’t enter contests anymore….. *sigh*
One good reason not to publish all the vote totals is the risk of discouraging people like you, Heather. Your elephant puppet was terrific. If you follow these contests regularly, you know that even the most talented (and popular) designers sometimes end up near the bottom in some of the contests. And what displays well in our previews is often different from what prints well and looks nice once it’s been put together into a project. Keep trying!
The way I read Heather’s reply was that she was bummed that an entry that did NOT follow the entry rules was allowed and then received the same number of votes as her. Maybe that’s just my take on it. I love the fact that the total votes are posted because it’s a really good tracking device for the designers to gauge their progress and how well their patterns are liked overall. I liked Heather’s elephant too – the peanuts were an especially cute touch:)
I thought the same thing you did apoo. That Heather was discouraged that a design that was off theme/didn’t follow the rules got as many votes as hers did. It’s very discouraging to be beaten by designs that don’t follow the rules. It’s not the same as when you’re beaten by designs that do follow the rules.
Don’t be discouraged Heather, your elephant and baby are charming. Order it and make the puppet, then post pictures on Flickr and link them to your design. I’ve finished in the top ten and dead last; but I keep entering.
Stephen, I thought that Spoonflower was going to remove entries that were off theme (or used colors outside of the limited palettes, when those are specified), what happened?
Toronto flower delivery says: They’re cute, wholesome and befitting for any kind of design. The victim taking a picture made an impression on me.
