As noted in today's Spoonflower email, we're going through a transition right now in our quilting-weight cotton. Starting this week we've printed all quilting-weight orders on cotton with a slightly different thread construction: 78×76 rather than the 60×60 we have used in the past. The decision to change our most popular base fabric is being driven by our determination to find a source for fabric with quality that is perfectly consistent from one batch to the next. Based on the testing we are doing right now to all our fabrics, we may well change again before we settle on a permanent replacement.
Above is a photo that shows the old quilting-weight cotton on the left and the new on the right. They're very similar in weight, but the new quilting cotton is slightly denser and softer than the old. Feedback on the change is welcome!
Great. I’m looking forward to receiving my current order in that new quality, the current quilt cotton is great, but feels a bit stiff for children clothing. I’m curious to see how the higher thread count falls.
I just got a couple of FQ’s that are on the new fabric. I like it! Whiter, tighter weave, less texture. It should be great for garments, especially for children. Very soft.
It’s bound to be an improvement. I thought the old fabric was a bit course in feel; not a fine enough thread count; sort of like inexpensive sheets.
sounds good to me!

Fantastic news – I really hope this new quilting weight cotton is soft – as I’m planning to make a new quilt 🙂
I just received samples in the new fabric and I like it. It is a bit softer and I think will have a softer drape for shirts and blouses.
thanks for being a company that LISTENS to its customers – woo hoo!
I am excited to see and feel the new cotton. The old was a bit too thin and transparent. I have been hoping for the upgrade as I use and order the quilting weight alot. Can’t wait!
