…printing your own artfully designed fabric labels to go inside the gorgeous items you have made with your artfully designed custom fabric! You could size them however big or small you wanted, include washing instructions, a website address, anything! I’ll bet quite a few would fit onto a yard, and a rotary cutter would make short work of cutting them apart. How to finish edges, though–hmmm….
OMG! This is the greatest idea ever. I’m currently trying to decide on what kind of labels I’d like for myself without spending $100 on several different kinds. I’m totally gonna roll with your idea Kim. Thanks!
If you print on a synthetic you may be able to seal the edges with heat, but that can be scratchy. Seam-Seal doesn’t last very long. Hemming them all would take forever unless you sew a whole row then cut them apart – but that may get bulky. So many options,,,
(I have a squirmy baby in my lap. Sorry if I make no sense. )
there are some label-making services out there, but I think I like the idea of a big ol’ generally customized patch of fabric better (at least for your larger things). You could just applique a cut out “label”, or integrate it into the sewn project–or just overlock the raw edges and be done with it. Lots of neat possibilities.
This would be lovely! Looking forward to seeing how it all works.
I would just cover the back with Steamaseam 2 and forget about the edges.. or zigzag them! I’m thinking you could also use this to create a custom cover for your ironing board- maybe with a grid or squares to make sure you aren’t warping the fabric while you press. You could design a fabric and overlay the lines of your full size pattern if you were making a garment. Or maybe lay out all the pieces of your pattern and do a fill of your fabric design inside so there wouldn’t be any dark lines around the edges… The possiblities are endless, I think!
