Do you have what it takes to become the next great fabric designer? Announcing Project Selvage from Spoonflower and Michael Miller

Project Selvage: your chance to become a fabric designer Spoonflower is teaming up with Michael Miller Fabrics to offer you a chance to become a professional fabric designer. The theme of the competition is boy fabrics for babies. There will be some important differences between this contest and our usual Fabric Of the Week contests.

The Project Selvage competition will take place in rounds. The first round will be open for submissions from February 24, 2011 to March 24, 2011. The first round will not, however, be open to voting. Instead, judges from Michael Miller Fabrics and Spoonflower will select 75 semifinalists from all of the entries submitted.

Voting on semifinalists will be open to one and all between 3/31 and 4/6. Then, on 4/7, we'll announce 10 finalists (all of whom will receive some nifty prizes from Spoonflower and Michael Miller). That's when the work really starts!

Finalists will have until 4/27 to complete five additional coordinating fabrics for a collection. Open voting on the ten finalist collections will take place between 4/28 and 5/4.

We'll announce the winner on 5/5/2011, who will be offered a contract with Michael Miller to produce the collection (along with a $1000 advance against royalties), as well as an all-expense paid trip to the Quilt Market in Houston October 29-31, 2011 [the trip part of the prize will only be available if the winner happens to be a US resident]. Exciting, no?
