How much does shipping cost?
For the time being we ship exclusively through the US Postal Service or, if you are an International customer, through the USPS and your national service.
Shipping rates as of May 2008 are as follows:
Swatch --$1 Special Domestic Shipping Discount during Beta--
Domestic shipping:$3.50-- $1.00 --
International : $7Fat Quarter
Domestic shipping: $3.50
International: $10Yards (any amt 1-5)
Domestic shipping: $7
International: $12

Thanks Guys! This is reasonably priced. I cant wait to make the first of many orders!!!!

Just one comment about the shipping rates-- the way your system works currently, it applies the shipping rate separately for each pattern ordered rather than against total yardage. In other words, if one were to order one yard of one design and a fat quarter of another design, one would pay $10.50 for shipping. ($7 for one yard plus $3.50 for the fat quarter.)
In a more prefect universe, the charge would be only $7 because the total yardage would be less than 5 yards. Presumably it would all fit in one package!
One would also expect that once someone ordered seven swatches, the shipping cost wouldn't go up for a while. It might not matter during the "beta" but later on the ability to combine shipping would encourage people to order more fabric.
I suspect the real reason for the pricing is not a desire to make money on shipping, but rather a limitation of the ordering system-- it treats each design printed as a separate transaction.

You're right, of course... designing the checkout process for a single transaction was a way for us to save money and software development time as we tried to get the beta up and running. But it's a temporary solution. As soon as we can we'll add a proper shopping cart. Sorry about that!

Until the shopping cart is up and running, I've been combining designs as a work around. For example, I've taken four different designs that I want a fat quarter of each, and pasted them together onto a file that is 36"x42". Or, I have two halves of a design (each is 72"x42") that will be sewn together as one piece. Instead of a separate two yard order for each, I butted them up against each other and ordered four yards. This saved me on shipping and was able to order a lot more fabric!

Wow that really is incredibly reasonable. I don't know how you do it but I'm impressed. Good ppint about shipping but Stephen your solution is brilliant. Great tip.
